Oh nice, Yea i am thinking about it, but worst case it has the gov lock in it for now. Depending on funds, and how on time i get all this done., It'd be nice to get a locker for the rear, not sure though since i plan on maybe ARB air locking the front and rear at some point. Maybe when that money tree starts flowering, i will splurge on the set up.

Today i didn't get much done. I had to get my blue book stamped at the apprenticeship office, for completion of another year!:woot:
I did manage to remove the u joints in the front axle shafts since i am re-using them, also curious about replacing the two plastic seals, on the outer axle shafts. I figured i should but they do seem in great shape?

The inner clips did come out easily, Luckily i had done this when i first got it so they joints are not terribly old or worn. Brand new MOOG super strengths are going in.

It was the first time ever doing u joints, and ball joints with a press. It is worth its weight, in gold:bow:

Glad to have these black inner fenders waiting for install.

I got the knuckles wire brushed down. I also used a 80 grit sanding disk to get the mounting surface nice and rust free and smooth again. I applied two coats of primer ( duplicolor sealer and primer ), and used two coats of duplicolor satin black on the knuckles.

Once they dried i took the tape off, and i scuffed them a bit with a green bristle pad. Some paint, and crap had seeped in through the tape.

I still have to drop the front shaft out, undo U bolts ,and drop the axle out. I do need to get a bigger set of jack stands to put under the frame, for that though. Parts should still be here by friday, an axles are done saturday for pick up! Just in time to spend a long weekend in the garage!!:D

Didnt do much today, but i did get the front axle dropped out. Had other parts to clean up but called it a day anyway. waiting on parts to show up sucks.

Don't be a tease...what's in the box? I can see it's from Rock Auto, that delivery truck must have left my place and drove to yours btw.

U joints, ball joints, and tie rod ends. Nothing that exciting , but still parts!

Today i got up nice and early, picked up both axles, and started to get the work done on this front axle. I had quite a bit to do still. It was completely taken apart i just had parts to clean and rebuild. They also replaced the pinion yoke aswell.. maybe that explains the extra gouging on the price..:angry1: i was just happy to get them back and i can finally get this front axle done..

As i started getting to work on the u joints in the axle shafts i primed the ten bolt cover and the u bolt plates for the front. I may switch them out with new ones i have in the rear since they will be useless once my 14bolt goes in.. I have measured, but it only makes sense the ten bolt front and rear would be the same..?

Then i got the ball joints in. The dust boots that are on these moog ones, are really tight fitting, and i can't see them coming all loose like some of the others I've had.

Moved on to the tie rods once i got the knuckles on and loosely tightened up. The beefier tie rod will be nice to have... even though the ten bolt will probably break before it does..:doah:

I grinned, primed, and painted the caliber plate holders afterwards..And i also painted the diff cover... and while i was waiting for those to dry, i started getting the spindles back on to the knuckles..

Once the parts were done drying i put them on..

Rotors, wheel bearings and hubs were next... wheel bearings looked mint inside, repacked with grease, and put back in.

New rotors were not in the budget.. but at lease these ones were good shape besides the rust...

The hole in the new tie rod doesn't fit the new stabilizer bolt that came with it, so i may drill it out another 1/8 of an inch or see if the one from the previous tie rod will fit. Tomorrow i will hopefully get it under the truck, the u bolts tightened, front driveshaft u joints changed, and fluid added. I wish i would have put this back together under the truck because of how heavy it is now..:doah:And then i can start to drop the rear axle..

If you're a little gentle a skateboard works pretty good to help skid a diff around, or a transmission...just saying.

Two observations...1) you got yourself a new bike! Looks like a pretty cool cruiser. :waytogo:

2) Nice diff cover, that blue looks amazing. :flipoff7:

No skateboard for me, left it in victoria, on my last trip. Eric is going to stop by tomorrow to catch up, so ill swindle him into helping me get it positioned under the truck. haha thanks on the diff cover.. i was there buying primer... it was a tough choice between that and red...:1zhelp:. I was going to paint the tie rod as well.. but figured don't overdo it lol.

And i wish that bike was mine, its my friend Colton's. Its a super light, cool cruiser.

Did you unload the 302 zapper alone... i still don't know if you actually bought it, or not!?

I wish I had the financial testosterone to pull the trigger on that engine today. Would have been super cool, especially if I'd have also been rich enough to grab the Muncie M20 that was sitting next to it. <sigh> Instead, I have some oddball trim and a pair of extra tail light lenses. :haha:

What time are you getting up and getting started? I was gonna work on my junk too, but could come by and help sling that bad boy under your Blazer if you want?

Ahh, 1900$ seemed like a fair price for how rare the interweb made them sound!

Umm i will probably be getting up around 7-8, as usual. Going to be cleaning up the garage and what not around 8-9 id say. I told Eric he was going to be helping me as to not surprise him, but I'm totally up for some extra hands. It'd be nice to have an experienced set of hands, and i could totally use a hand on getting the toe in properly set. Give me a call in the morning if you decide to stop by!

Were you talking about using the rear u-bolt spring plates on the front axle?

Martin

He has DIY plates in the rear now, all he needs to do is oval the holes a touch to use em on the SF 14 bolt...
