1991 Chevy Crew Cab "R" / "V" Conversion

Mine is here.

Thats a good spot but that is also where I put my blow-by separator/catch can....

no i meant you aren't running a mechanical?

oh, yeah, i'm currently just running the electric fans that came on the donor truck. If they turn out to not be enough then I will get a mechanical setup but the previous owner towed and used these electric fans so I think they should be enough. Only time will tell though.

yeah, i was just more curious about how much space you had up there for it... i know that can get tight :)

Without the electric fans there is about 3 inches from the front of where the fan pulley is to the radiator, its tight but its also close to what I have seen from others that kept the mechanical fan. If I went to the mechanical fan I would need the 1st gen pulley setup with the 2nd gen fan but we will see!

cool, thanks! tho I'm fine with electric in my wheeler, I was thinking I'd like to keep Mutt mechanical.... good work!

So I got the engine started for the first time inside the truck! I still have some issues to sort out and I need to get my Ford F350 master cylinder bleed and installed. Hoping to be able to drive it around a little this weekend. Here are two very short videos of it running, first is of the engine compartment and second is of the exhaust. Was not able to do a revving video because I had no helpers...

Sounds good. What's the tailpipe plan? Your pretty close on clearance back there with that rear mount fuel tank.
Does your cab have carpet and insulation on the floor and firewall? That's the biggest annoyance on my 12 valve ford. I get a lot of engine noise through the floor and firewall. Doesn't help either that my shifter boot is tore in half. LOL

Currently I plan to leave the tailpipe the way it is in the video, I like how tucked up it is and i'm afraid if I tried to go out the side it will hang to low. Also there is the issue of the clearance around the fuel tank but I could make something work there if I had too. The cab doesn't have any insulation or carpet yet but that will be coming soon once I get this thing back on the road. I know the feeling about torn shift boots, when this truck had a 454 in it my transfercase shift boot was shredded and it was considerably quieter after I replaced it.

i didn't realize this one was yours.. saw it posted on FB.. i dig that back....

Got some better assembled pics of the ac and alternator mount? What alternator is it? Still able to use oem dodge intercooler boots and coolant hoses?

I will grab some pics for you, I was able to use the oem replacement innercooler boots but I had to trim about 1" from each end of the innercooler tubes. The tubes have two clamp retaining beads on each end, I basically trimmed off the first one and I am using the second one. Had to do that to both sides. The radiator hoses are oem dodge but both needed a little trim. On the upper hose I had to add a 90° bend to meet up with the vertical water neck. The alternator is a Bosch AL9960LH New Alternator 160AMP Link ($208.94).

Why did you choose that alternator specifically? How is your charging system regulated?

The medium duty trucks that the "high mount" brackets originally came on ran a Delco-Remy 28SI alternator, they are expensive and I couldn't find one that wasn't on a back order. While searching information about the 28si I found the Bosch one and it was well reviewed and a major name brand manufacturer so I went with it. The Bosch has its own regulator built onto the unit so there is no need for a external dodge style regulator.

I approve of this decision

:D:waytogo:

So that's nice. Electrical is my worst enemy. Being regulated, you can just plug it in to the oe harness?

Yeah, the only connection on my alternator currently is back to the battery. I never connected the voltage wire that goes to the gauge but by some form of magic the gauge works... It's probably reading voltage from the dash harness somewhere.
