Is that controller water proof? If it was me i would be installing that under the dash somewhere so it stays cool, dry and clean.

yep, totally waterproof and designed for the engine compartment.

not too much left now, still got the fuel pump, the torque converter to bolt up, and some more wiring. I also ordered the adapter today so I can put the oil filter on, so if any of you switch to a new style big block with the sideways exit oil filter that wont work with headers you will need GMPP #3853870, but more on that later. here is what it looks like.

Wow those wires are an eyecatcher, how bout that radiator hose?

was thinkin a little duct tape should hold it from having such a sharp bend.

I would not try to use anything to hold it into shape. Go hit up the parts stores and start looking at upper hoses for a Van. I can't tell from your pics but i'm guessing the water outlet has the hose nipple pointing straight up rather than forward at an angle like most others?

:D thanks:haha: but that was a joke, I am getting a new radiator and hoses, but your right it does go straight up.

got the adapter today here is the new one the left and the old on the right.

worked for me for the last 20 years with no problems. I seen lots of stuff here and there but it's all I have ever used.

that is sittin next to a 35" tire! this thing is huge, set my cell phone on top to show width. It's alumnium so it should cool with no problems at all. I put 5 gallons in it so far and it is about half full!!

You will soon learn that aluminum and plastic radiators are junk. They don't like heat or vibration. I can't even count how many of those I have seen with a split tank from the heat that builds under the hood and they aren't repairable.

However many you have seen, there have been just as many leaky copper/brass units I'll bet;)

True, you can't repair a cracked plastic tank, but lately there are just about zero radiator shops left anyway. One of the best known radiator shops here in town recently closed their doors, not sure if there's any more left in the area.

may all be true, but this is all I could find in my budget right now. Tried to find a good 4 core copper at the salvage yards and there was nadato be seen. It's just not in the budget for full aluminun right now.

takin a break for a bit. I have been to the parts store about 3 times today [duh] oh it's gettin old now, but I am real close, got the carb on and all the vacum lines run and replaced. Filled the radiator (6 gallons so far, still need to fill the block and upper hose) put a gallon of tranny fluid in. Now I am workin on where to put the fuel pump, pressure regulator, and relay to finish off the fuel system. After that fill the t-case put oil in it connect power to the tranny computer and due the initial program, oh and tighten the torque converter, put the bell housing lower cover on, and the fan and clutch on the water pump. Yep think that's it, and the wind has been blowing like hell all day!!!!

did you put a quart in the torque convertor?

prolly gonna regret it but no. I never pulled it off the tranny so it should still have enough in it, but I also read that they tend to drain bak on the 4l80E, after it was all in of course. I blame all that on being in a rush while it was at my buddies house, I had fully intended on pullin it off and drainin it out and re fill it, but one thing led to another and suddenly it was back in the truck and the tranny was bolted up:doah:

I'll find out soon I guess, should be startin it by 1 or 2 tomorrow.

so too videos. the fan kisses the shroud and sounds terrible but it runs!!

a little more without the noise of the fan.
