64 Vette….Rebuild 2.0

I don`t see how that is too much orange...but the tops of the vc milled would look sweet too.

Very nice Dave!

In my regal I get about 8 or 9 inHg at idle, and cruising down the road I get around 18 - 20. Use your vacuum pump to see if the timing keeps increasing as you raise the vacuum above 12, I bet it does.

good call Heath...I'll check that if/when I get a chance. I know I can dial this in some more and make more improvements....do you think the 34-36 I have right now total w/o the vac is causing it to run hotter on the highway, or just the fact that 50+ mi at 3700-4000rpm is just making a lot of heat for my radiator...it runs right around 180 in a more docile environment like city traffic...the rpm's seem to make more heat than it can take away at highway speed. I think I will go more state highway or slow it down to 55 on the highway. I got all morning to get there so no big hurry on friday.

Thanks, I'll be driving to Warren on Friday, then back home friday night, and catching them on Sunday about 2/3 way across the state. (east side of GR) then cruising into Muskegon.
Been driving the car the last couple days, averaging about 11mpg overall including the 70miles on the highway.

I love Chevy orange, but it seems like with the red color of the body, there is just a little too much orange...If I take the time to mess with the car some more before I leave, that would only take an hour or two.

When I disconnect the vacuum advance on my truck the engine does run hotter, but I guess that doesn't mean the same will happen to you.

I've been tinkering some with the timing/tuning of the engine...got it at 19* initial w/ 38 total all in by 2500rpm. car is responding really good now.
No hesistation, instant throttle response and more power than the tires can handle by far.....
For any of the guys that were at the build and greet last year, I had a hard time on the low end even trying to get the tires spinning with the lineloc engaged....huge difference now. Feels like a 12 sec car again now.

This burnout started back at the driveway on the left....about 125' later in 2nd gear on the rev limiter (5500 for now) I got out of it, because it was drifting into the other lane....

About 15 min. later a cop shows up at the house where I did the burnout wanting a description of the offending vehicle...hmmm, that was a very quick response for my neck of the woods.

I need to clean up the car, lash the valves down to .015 from the recommended .022, then I'll play with the valve covers alittle and try to take some orange off them...

That sounds a lot more like it Dave, nice work. Now limit the vacuum can to 14 degrees (at any vacuum level) and plug it back in.

Do you know the people in the house? That sounds odd for a country road.

I do know the house...Jeff helped me with electrical stuff on the Maiden, and was just down to my house prior to the incident....I'm sure it wasn't him...perhaps the neighbor across from him we suspected...He called me right after the sheriff left his house, and I just closed my garage door...:flipoff10:

He never stopped at my house...but I gotta stand by that is lame but I use it everytime I get in trouble....the throttle stuck open!
Told my supervisor at work that one, when the security camera in the parking lot caught me on video....(so he says)

I haven't been able to get in here and post, but I have to think those VC's would look way better with the top of the fins milled off. Either way, that is one beautiful car!

Did that tonight at work....sort of; I was looking at the thickness of the flat "engraveable portion" and they don't seem thick enough to get them down flat to the M/T portion of the covers....I took them to an upright benchtop belt sander to flatten them out, and still didn't get to the letters close to the flat portion very well...I didn't want to make them any thinner as I have the breathers to bolt on too, so I hand filed/sanded portions of them to get the ribs exposed...pics to follow when I get home from work tonight!

prepped the valve covers tonight at work, then brought them home, washed them with Dawn and a 3M pad, then blew them off w/ compressed air, then wiped them with wax and grease remover, then a shot of clear to seal em up.

Likin' em:

And just cuz I love my valve train:

The valve covers look great Zim! But you are missing a hose to your vacuum can. :haha::waytogo:

Thanks guys, you get the idea, but I'll get a better pic tonight to replace that cell pic....and I'm still amazed at how much paint an HVLP will put down....
