Stripping the donor suburban today finally. Got everything laid back in the engine bay, most of the interior taken out and some parts for other folks rounded up and packaged. This is the part of a build that I hate the most. Figuring what parts to order in what sequence. You can't do this until you have this....sort of thing. The engine in this truck will be used to mock up the headers and turbo locations on the 72. That is the most critical figment issue with the entire truck. So while it won't be staying in there, I am planning to pull the engine and trans as an assembly and set them in place while I work on exhaust manifolds. I ordered the flanges and a header bend kit, I hope it will be enough tubing for the large amount of screw ups I plan to make. I will only be fitting it and tacking it together. Then I will be handing it off to a good friend to tig weld it all for me. I can do it here but y tig welding doesn't hold a candle to his. Then we will buff it all up and send it out to be coated.
As I take this engine apart I am making mental notes of clearances and distances inside the engine bay of the 84. I'm not sure but I think the 72 has more room under the hood. It just doesn't seem as tight to me. Bought a case of engine degreaser....not sure it will be enough to get the old 6.2 clean.
