Who doesn't want to be the old guy that has all the cool and handy tools.
I guess if I gotta be the old guy, might as well be the cool old guy.

Where did you get your pass side knuckle machined for crossover?
I had the crossover done by advanced 4x4 in salt lake city. I believe they did the machining themselves. They did several things for me back when I had less knowledge, tools and shop space, and did pretty good work.

I remember going in there to talk to them about it once about 10 yrs ago or so. I will have to call them. I wasn't sure if I should send it to them or to someone like ORD. I will have to check some more if anyone up here in Idaho can do it also. Thanks

If they won't ship it back and forth, let me know. You'd could always ship it to me and I could take it in for ya.

@blazinzuk came over and helped me get the gears and lockers swapped in. I forgot to take a pic of the detroit in the 14boltsf, but I did get a shot of the aussie locker in the D44 before I buttoned it up.

We ran into all sorts of problems getting the gears in. The Motive gears for the 14 bolt just would not give us a good pattern. We ended up doing 11 patterns by the time it was all said and done. :doah: The D44 went much better, but somehow I managed to lose a thrust bearing when taking it apart. Luckily @bigblock72 donated one to the cause and got us back on track.

Last night I finally got time to put the rear axle back in.

It is significantly wider than the stock 12bolt.

On the right side of the pic you can just barely see that my license plate shows that I'm registered as a classic vehicle, so a little too wide without fender flares won't be a problem... except it won't fit on my trailer anymore. :surepal:

While I was at it, I also moved the rear axle back 1.5".

I was surprised that the change was so noticeable. It still looks weird to me, but I suppose I'll get used to it.

Unintended side effect of moving the axle back though, My emergency brake cables are too short. It's not as big of a deal now that I have an automatic, but I would like to have it back. I'll have to see if I can find a way to get longer ones, or move the frame-side brackets back a bit.

Hopefully I'll have the front axle back together and hooked up by this evening so that I can get started on those heat cycles and be driving this thing asap. The weather seems to have finally turned and I'm itching to cruise! :burnout:

Yep a bit fustrating, but it's good. Anything is better than the gears in your front 44 lol.

Locked front and rear geared mmmmmmm

Did I mention you really need to build sliders now:D

You mean the gears that were "barely" in? lol

I think you mentioned it a time or two... Judging by my passenger side rocker panel I needed to build sliders last year. :doah:

Um, yep

Whoops, ran into a problem. Did you know that D44's for different applications have different offsets for the caliper brackets? Me neither... but I do now. :(

Got to source another bracket.

What happened to the caliper brackets you had on the truck?

I broke one. I had a caliper bolt snap off and bend the bracket. Or vice versa

And then out of the 3 I have here I grabbed the 3/4 ton one not the half ton one.

Btw I need that back Josh I don't have any spares
