I was gonna say that jar of Dykem means this is going to be legit. But, I think that tube to mount the shock goes thru the middle of your gas tank. The shackle flip bracket is also much further forward than the pic. My fuel cell almost butts up against the rear crossmember

Dykem is almost as legit as blue sharpie!
The pic of the crossmember tube was just an example. I did it in front of the axle, not behind. Nothing to hit there.

Decided since I'm out boarding the shocks so much, side to side deflection of the bushing was going to be an issue. I made custom lower brackets to switch the bolt to front to back.

Bolting up the diy4x shackle hanger took a lot longer than I had hoped. When I got them up in place, the bolt holes didn't line up.

I suspect this is due to the frame being damaged back here. I was considering notching the bracket, but after using some c-clamps and a few other things I was able to get the holes to line up well enough to start the bolts.

Looks good and solid now, and actually looks like it will reinforce the frame a bit.

I then spent way too much time cleaning up my old shackles only to realize that I cant use them anyway.

:doah:

Oh well, it gave me the excuse to make some adjustable shackles out of angle iron to test various lengths before buying new ones.
I got the spring pack taken apart and bolted in so I can cycle the suspension.

I'll reinstall the tank and axle today and start measuring for bump stops.

Keep the originals and just pimp them out!!!

Once you know the exact length you want, you build something like this.

That would have been an option with the ORD shackle flip, but I'm using the DIY4x flip. It uses front style shackles.

Btw, I got the crossmember tube in place.
20200413_131604.jpg

It's in place, but not welded and its cut long. Will allow me move things around while I finalize the upper mount.

I haven't updated this in awhile, but I got the shock mounts finished.

I built my own lower mounts so that I could turn the shock eye for less binding:

Upper shock mount fully welded in. I used the fishplates I won at BB19 from @Deuling to reinforce the frame where the crossmember goes through.

Also decided that I wanted the bump stops to be bolt on, and tie into the top and bottom of the frame rail. That was complicated by the fact that the frame is not straight where they needed to go. It took me awhile, but I got it worked out.

I then cleaned up and painted the frame rails before bolting everything back in.

Unfortunately, now that everything is in as it should be, I realize I have a huge problem.

I think ORD sent me the wrong springs. I went back over my order, and it clearly states that I have a shackle flip, but these springs are obviously way too tall. I can only assume that they sent me springs designed for no flip.

I'm pretty disappointed right about now. Even if they make this right, all my measurements will need to be redone. Shock mounts will have to change. And how long will it take to get a new set of custom springs?? I can't drive it like this.

This sucks. :frown

from my order:
Vehicle:1972 K5 Engine: lq4 (F)Bumper: Tube winch bumper
(F)Lift: 6" (F) Axle Placement: 1" Forward (R) Bumper: Swing
out tire carrier (R) Lift:6" (R)Axle Placement: 1" back for flip
Additional Notes: Soft top, rear seat, Building family style roll
cage has diy4x shackle flip, has our hd shackles up front D44
front 14 bolt rear, sliders

Front Custom Springs ORD " Lift Custom Front Springs - without bushings 1/8" eye for 67-72 6"
Rear Custom Springs ORD " Lift Custom Rear Springs - without bushings 2"

Clearly I was supposed to get 2" lift springs in the back and I did not. :(

No like given for that..
I wonder if there was a mix up in shipping.

Nice job on the rest of it!

How much weight will the cage add? That's a line item in the order, but you haven't gotten there yet. Rear seat also isn't in. Since they're fairly soft and flexy, that'll flatten them out. I just don't know how much. But your shackle angle suggests they should be quite a bit flatter.

Ash,

Throw a couple hundred pounds of sand / cement bags in the back and drive it around for a couple of weeks.

I'll bet the springs settle-out on their own... but it's worth a call to ORD to confirm that this is the expected "stance" for a fresh set of springs.
