I can't recommend them enough. ****ing fantastic.do it!

I think I’ve seen someone else cut more of the door away and weld in those plates flush with the door? If I did that, does that locking mechanism unbolt if it ever needs to be replaced? I guess you’d have to shim the striker out a bit more in that case as well.

I believe the locking mechanism is riveted in. I can't remember for sure though. I'd have to go look.

I remember thinking about welding it in myself, but figured I'd just install it as is for now and then look into it later. Now that I've had them awhile, I think they look good as is. If they were painted the same color as the doors, I think you'd be happy with them just bolted in place.

So, just like @72gmck5 , I'm installing the vintage air ac kit, but unlike him, it's fighting me the whole way. :frown

First, because of my '72 grill I realized I couldn't install the condenser without pulling the grill surround, so that complicated things. Since I had the front end off I decided I should go ahead and install my transmission and power steering coolers.

Not strictly part of the install, but it did add some time. Of course I had to drill some holes and, yup, put a hole in the radiator. :doah:

Got that fixed, front end back on, and moved on to the interior.
Center vent wouldn't go in place because my roll cage cross tube runs right behind the dash where it wants to be.

I spent several hours modifying the vent housing, but managed to get it in place!

But... we are just getting started with my issues.

See that a-pillar inside the glove box? Well, that is where the fan motor needs to go. :mad2:

After bitching about my luck for a few hours, I've come to the conclusion that the only solution is to pull the cage (which means pulling the top and the dash) and modify that pillar. What a cluster ****.

Bummer. I’ll be watching closely since I have a similar pillar tube and would like to get AC in there eventually.

No way to shift or rotate the blower assembly? I had thought I read somewhere that the system could be mounted in different orientations. Buts been a while since I investigated.

Sounds like you're in one of those "embrace the suck" moments.

Do you know modifications were made to the ZR2?
I'm not sure what you're asking.

Yeah... I took the night off in order to come to grips with how much work this is going to be. :(

I'll start pulling stuff apart after work tonight.

Maybe switch to an underdash unit? That's what I plan to do if I ever put AC in the crew cab.

I think he's wondering about a vehicle in the video:

You've got this! A big pill to swallow and definitely more than you planned but less than you've done for other projects.

This is an under dash unit from Vintage Air. That is the problem. Unfortunately, some of my "under dash" space is occupied by my roll cage A pillar.

right. unfortunately I don't know anything about that rig.

I've certainly solved bigger issues, but I really was planning on this being a "weekend project". It's really getting out of hand, but as Amber said to me, "don't they all?" sigh, yeah, ...yeah they do. :(
