72 k5, sons first truck build.(officially NOT mine now..)

Good on ya man.

I've missed this thread for half a year now. Whoops.

I'm envious of the classic Blazer. We need more pics! (Silently kicking myself for passing on the 80% condition '72 K5 I didn't buy in 1997 for a song...because I was a moron...)

One of my greatest regrets is not learning more car stuff from my grandpa. He was an excellent mechanic from WAY back. Built hot rods and race cars in Detroit before WWII...before they were even called Hot Rods. However when I was growing up my dad pretty much made any auto repair seem like WORK and not any fun so I wasn't much interested in it. I liked cars but not spending time with my dad. Years later I don't have the skills or the confidence to do some of the stuff I wish I could do.
Good for you by being a positive influence and passing on those skills.

Oh, and tell him:
A-You have a ready buying market.
and
B-We'll kick his butt if he wrecks it doing anything stupid.

:haha::haha:

He knows I know alot of people that would buy it:rolleyes: and HE would kick his own ass if he messes it up:waytogo: Thats what I was hoping for too:thumb:

I'm having trouble figuring out where to put the MSD box on this thing??? The factory A/C seems to be taking up all the good spots. I have it about mid way on the inner fender but I know water will hit there if hes puddle jumpin. Is there a known good spot on a first gen that I'm over looking or is it a craps shoot.

Directly behind the gauge cluster, up high.... Against the cowl sheet metal.

I put my 6AL box there and it was nice and hidden, but still reachable to change out the little rev limiter pills.

I can post a pic next week if you can't figure it out from my description.

:usaflag:

If your talkin under the hood still I was looking in that area just last night:waytogo: I was trying to decide there or right below it on the inner fender. If in the cab I'll have to pull the gauge cluster and look back there. we have to pull it anyway so now would be as good a time as any:D

NOT under the hood...

Inside the truck, behind the gauge cluster.

High and dry. :waytogo:

:usaflag:

thats what I thought you were sayin:waytogo: I'll have to take a look back there this weekend. thanks

Finally got back to this thing:rolleyes: got the tranny lines in most of the way, fuel line 90% done, gauge cluster out to mount msd 6al behind it, heater hoses hooked up, and power steering lines back in. putting radiator support back in, grille on radiator in and hooking up carb/tranny linkages tommorow if all goes well.

Whats the smaller middle hose bard for on the fuel pump:dunno:

Is there any way to just cap it? I dont have a return line to his tank that i know of. I just ordered a pump from summit and didnt really pay attention to that part:doah:

Me and my kid agreed that I would hook the msd box up by my self cause I couldnt teach him what I didnt know:rolleyes: So I went to town on that today. Also got bored and bent up a hard line and plumbed the fuel pump to the carb.
Finding a lower radiator hose for this thing is proving impossible too.

does anybody know what this part of the frame is bent up for?? its factory but I cant figure out why. Its also inthe way for ANY of the radiator hoses I've found. can I bend it down with out hurting anything:dunno:

I have no idea, mine is the same way, only thing that connects to that area is a ground off the battery that hooks to the little bolt in the pic.

I wonder if it is for a big block version to give some room for the fuel pump.

My lower radiator hose rests on top of that lip, it does put a small kink in the hose but has not caused any issues.

i'm just worried about it rubbing a hole in it. I may just make a metal sleeve to tiestrap around that section of hose. I still have plenty of the same stuff i used to make the msd mount

Well I have accumulated what I believe to be Most of the little parts we'll need to finish this thing. I gotta get a tach, more oil, and Some antifreeze. I'm sure I'll find some small things yet, but thats all I can think of that I'm missing. I work nights this weekend so :dunno: dont know when I'll be able to help him finish it up. hopefully soon

Cant roll it out. Angle of my driveway I'd never get it back in:rolleyes: It'll come out in the near future under its own power:waytogo: Just gotta line up time with my boy again. One day to finish it up motor wise. then one full day of break in, tranny setup, test driving and getting the top in the garage for paint.
