'72 K5 - Where do I go from here?

It's hard to get an accurate idea of level until you have the full weight of everything compressing your springs. If it were me I would maybe add a zero rate to the front and wait until it's all together to fine tune it. Awesome progress btw!

Thank you NorCal and UpnAdam. I think I have stock seat brackets with 'other' seats attached to them.

Were the stock body bolts welded in? I did not expect this:

Are those the body bolts closest to the tailgate? If so, they are usually just tacked on one side of that carriage bolt. Gently cut all the way around the bolt head. Any other resistance is probably just rust in the sleeve itself.... Pound with a drift from underneath to free it up.

Edit: ps, that small 1" X 2" plate underneath is part of the body bolt Assy so that comes out too...

Thanks Greg. I decided to leave the plate because all I got with the bolts are paltry little washers.

I also just realized I left those little box things out of the rear two. It's pretty thin, so I don't see how it has any structural relevance - am I wrong? I can still clean/paint and get them in if there is some value.

That part holds up the bedside from underneath and sits on the body mount bushing.

It doesn't seem all that beefy but without it, there really isn't anything holding up the rear bedside near the tailgate. They should be spot welded to the underside of the floor, if they fell out due to rust you can give them a quick beadblast and coat of RyokenGreen....then tack them back to the underside where they belong. Then reassemble your body mount bushings /bolts.

Thank you Greg. I swear man, you are like a freakin encyclopedia of Blazer knowledge!

Happy Independence Day everyone! Celebrate it while it's still legal to do so........

Well, when you take one apart and then take 10 years putting it back together "better" you'd better have learned at least a little! :)

Finally got some time to spend on the Blazer. Got the vent windows and front windows out, console, rear seat, mirrors.......crawling towards body & paint work. After lots of time trying to figure it out, I realized (with some help from a member), that my seat brackets are a custom job of stock bottom welded to different slider tops. I'm in the market for the whole setup - brackets to covers. I know, easier to find an honest politician, but I really want stock.

Ekajkrats - I owe you one bro........I am picking them up 30 July. Freakin awesome! Next time I am in the Bay area (one of wife's bros lives in Alameda, one in Sacramento, and one in Tahoe, so we're up that way a lot) - beer's on me!

Yeah, screw those mice who like to chew through wiring, let them starve I say!!!

I bet all the wire insulation is completely hard and brittle... Mine was. You can get 100% accurate reproduction harnesses (including the glass fuse holder!) and get yourself another 50 years of safe, fire-free driving

Oh yeah, it was a freakin mess...tons of 'wires to nowhere' (PO must have been in politics), wiring just falling apart, etc. I already got the new Painless harness. I try to order parts a month or two ahead of time so that it's just a steady drip instead of a massive purchase. Only had a few hours today because I had to put up a curtain rod (16' long) and curtains to 'keep the peace'........apparently I had a 'little' too much fun at the bar last night......one of my buddies called with a "Hey bro, just making sure you are still alive" and the wife commented that I was in 'rare form' last night so while they were at the ranch dealing with horseshit I put up the curtains that have been sitting there for a month. Anyway, I started tearing apart the steering column (might as well) and am getting my ass kicked. I found a place that sells directions and kits for rebuild so I am going to call them tomorrow. Damn thing is tight. Tighter than the one on my '88, but I want to have turned every bolt, screw, nut, etc on this thing when I am done - I want it all rebuilt and I want to be confident enough that I will tear into anything on it without hesitation. No hurry - it's all about having fun and learning.......
