'72 K5 - Where do I go from here?

So during my second break-in period the damn upper hose came off from the intake manifold side - sprayed EVERYWHERE. I had anti-freeze inside (no windshield), all over the engine, a huge puddle on the floor....what a freaking mess. The timing is definitely off, but that's easy. I could not find a hose at any of our 3 parts stores, but I ordered one from O'Reillys and one from Napa. I'm gonna finish cleaning the mess and call it a weekend. I have an interview tomorrow (same company) and need to spend a little time thinking through that shit.

All said and done - I am stoked. I needed to see this thing run. Oh, and I ran it off the gas tank this time. Gauge does not work (shocker), tach in the dash is useless, but oil pressure is good, vacuum gauge works, and the 'battery' gauge works. Assuming I get the right hose, next weekend I'll bleed the brakes, set the timing, and put it in drive.........As soon as it moves (and stops) under it's own power - back to the body shop to get the front clip put on.

Reading some threads I see a guy mention '87 Blazer, so I walked out to my '88 and opened the hood.....looks like it would work. Of course it's in stock at a store that closed and hour and a half ago.

I will never claim to be a computer (especially Apple) Guru, but this is what I see:

That one appears to only be 10 seconds...

Sorry, I just realized that you thought that I recorded the entire thing - no, I recorded 10 seconds. While I had the wife sitting on the floor of the Blazer constantly adjusting the RPM between 1500 and 2000, I grabbed my phone and recorded a quick video.

I was with my buddies last night (ironically) at a "4 Wheel Drive Event" a mile from my house (a guy made an awesome obstacle course in his yard (20-40 acres), had cars to drive over, big concrete pipes, a mud bog....), anyway they're all, "Call me when you are ready to start it...." I was gonna just do it alone, but was concerned about not being able to watch the oil pressure, so I grabbed the wife and had her turn the key/stare at the oil pressure. Of course I texted the video to my friends and had a shop full in an hour......I just did not want a million "great ideas" if it did not start.

Ha! Text it to me, I’ll post it!

Weird, I have always had it set to unlimited... I just set it to 15M, can you try uploading it again?
This is why I don’t upload my stuff just YouTube it but it would be cool to not have to do that..

It appears to be a PHP limit so I need to look into increasing that and then rebooting the server to have it take affect which means taking the site down for a few minutes after finding out if there would be any cause and effect monsters that could creep up.

I got the hose issue taken care of (I'll post hose info later to help others). I got the timing set (starts right up, idles perfectly). So then I try to bleed the brakes..............

I bought a new CPP booster/master cylinder combo. I swear (although I could not find it today) that I read "If you bought the combo you do not need to bench bleed the master cylinder." Long story short - no brake fluid is coming out of the master cylinder. As you can see in the pick below, with the hard line out, no fluid. I took vacuum on a bleeder valved/broke it open probably 30 times - nothing. Any ideas? As always, assistance is greatly appreciated.

No fluid even if you press the brake pedal? Put a bucket under it before you try...

Once the master cylinder is bled, you should be able to crack open all 4 bleeder screws at each wheel and it’ll bleed itself.

Thanks man. I've been reading/watching YouTube videos (I don't know how guys did this stuff before Al Gore invented the internet!). Anyway, at this point I am convinced that I need to bench bleed the master cylinder. I'll do that in the morning. If I do not get anything after that - new master cylinder. Other than that, (based on everything I've read/watched), I can't imagine what else it can be..........As soon as I have brakes I can put it in 'Drive' and see what happens........

Anyone know if I can leave out my inner fenders and just put them on later with the front clip in place? I have an idea to make 'removable' inner fenders, but need to make sure I can still put them in after the rest of the front clip is in. At this point, as I work on it I imagine doing so with the front clip on......wow - that's gonna be tough! With the ~6" of lift I got, that engine kinda disappears into the engine compartment......

Yes you can install the inners later without too much issue.

No fluid at all? Are sure there aren't some factory installed plugs somewhere you forgot to remove?
Try removing the brake line from the master and see if fluid comes out there.

I bench bled the master cylinder, then bled each wheel, and it looks like I'm good....aside from a million little drips which I am slowly discovering/fixing.

NEW PROBLEM - I started it, put it in drive - nothing. No movement. I moved the transfer case through every setting - nothing. I had the transmission rebuilt right before I took it apart, so it should be good (I had the ass end sealed the whole time is was out of the vehicle. I can see (floor pan removed) the transmission shifting through different settings, same with transfer case. Any ideas are appreciated.

Sometimes the transfer case feels like it’s in gear, but isn’t. Try rotating the rear driveshaft by hand to see if there’s resistance difference when it’s in gear vs in neutral. Driveshaft unhooked from rear end and engine off of course.

I get DUMBASS OF THE YEAR X10! Transmission fluid. Seriously. Transmission fluid was WAY low.

Filled it up, backed it out of the shop.....then remembered that the tires only have three hand-tightened lugs on each wheel. Lug search underway. Bottom line - it moves (and stops) under it's own power! Finally! Woot woot!
