'73 k5 Build - New Drivetrain - 350/3500/241/205

Well id have to pick it up at my parents house anyways and i can always make a reason to drive to davis lol

And its looking like saturday

Little bit of progress from this week. Old engine is out and the new one is pretty much ready to go in. I think I am going to try to suck down my suspension cause getting the old one out was a little sketch. Even sitting on rims the engine had to be pretty high up there.

Built a redneck cruise control out of some bike parts.

The dash was looking a little plain on the passenger side

Did you remove the radiator support? As easy as it is to do on these rigs, I usually do it when pulling an engine.

Marftin

Nope, I probably should have but didnt want to deal with pulling the radiator, windstars and all the wiring. I think with the suspension ratchet strapped to full bump it will go in a lot easier then it came out. Not having the headers and bell housing hanging off the back will probably help too.

Braced the Ford towers then dropped the engine in. It went in a hell of a lot easier then the old one came out. I swear those welds look good in person

Found some sketchy wiring to my starter. Surprised the thing would even start...

NV3500 is in and since its a s10 nv3500 the shifter is set way back, about 1" behind the edge of transmission cover. Used a Napa clutch set and its a luk progold, there were some people wondering what brand they use a while back. Also hooked up my redneck cruise control, I can get to about 90% wide open.

Back from the dead. Put in some discount Flowtech (summit brand) ceramic shorties with stage 8 locking bolts. I am curious to see how the stage 8s work, I had to tighten my old bolts all the time. Also slapped in one of Kerts fire extinguisher holders. Its a pretty sweet mount I recommend it.

Wheeling? Whats that?

School and work have been kicking my ass. I am hoping to get at least an hour or two in this weekend. I hope I still remember how to put the 205 together, its been like 6 months since I tore it down...

The 205 is pretty simple. You shouldnt have to much trouble with it. What I couldnt remember is the torque specs of the idler/yolks. And it is between 90 to 120ft lbs. So I just did 110ft lbs on all three.

I got my 205 99% back together, just need to clean up the threads on the idler shaft. They got a little messed up when I tore it down apparently. Not much progress but it was nice to get a little done

So I did some more work on the doubler tonight and I think my intermediate shaft is a little too long? I have about a 1/2" gap between the cases? In the picture it looks like it is hitting the idler shaft nut but it doesnt.

Where the shaft bottoms out in the 205

I got the kit from DD Machine, and it has a clocking ring on the 205 that's half an inch tall.

I PMed Chris from ORD where I got the shaft and he says its normal and to just chop it down till i get 1/8 to 1/4" end play

Well I'm back at it, the truck is finally at the same place I am living again which is awesome. It just barely fits in the garage too.

I threw a 12000# winch up front. Mounted an odyssey on the firewall where the heater box used to be in a ruffstuff mount. All those sales the keep having are dangerous, picked up some 4" hids from them too.

Still plugging away on wiring too, moved the msd box and all my relays under the dash. Found some water proof boxes at Wally World to put them in. There is a 21 circuit ezwiring harness somewhere in route to go in too.

Still pluging away at the ezwiring harness, been through over 200 zip ties in just the front. Pretty damn happy with it so far and very happy to get rid of the old harness.

Chased a squirrel and picked up a 71 c20 with a sweet (so ugly it's awesome) utility bed and a seized 350. It's got some nice looking stuff under the hood I am going to sell and look for a 5.3 or 6.0 to drop in with a 4500 behind it. Should be a fun dd eventually.
