dam, those adapter/spacers are expensive...unless you buy cheap china crap.

Issaam, your right about the Welds though...top of the line!

yep they are expensive, I am still debating wether I want to go big on my dually or not mostly because of the $320 min for a set.
And as for the WELDs or any good aluminum wheel, the are foged versus cast.
I wouldn't mess with a dually wheel that is cast.

Those wheels look real good. I remember it taking me a whole weekend to wet sand and polish mine after they set all those years.

Great job.:thumb::thumb::thumb:

First off, the truck and wheels are looking awesome! However, I am missing something, is there a spacer in there already? Because you say you have .600" gap and you need 1", so you are adding 1.5"? I would say as long as the tires aren't rubbing a lot under load you can just run them, extra gap isn't going to do anything. You can always increase the pressure for towing so they don't flex enough to touch.

With two of the Goodyears mounted up on rims, the tires touch and there is about .6 gap between the hubs of the rims..requiring a spacer of some kind. So if about a 1" gap is preferred, I would need about a 1.5" spacer to achieve that gap. And while I agree with as long as the tires don't touch while loaded, the gap could be reduced to perhaps .5", leaving me with as little as a 1" spacer to get by, as long as heavy loads aren't in the future....primary usage will be a tow vehicle...no in bed campers or hauling a bed full of gravel or wood, perhaps a 100 gal tank in the back though. I would like to maintain at least a .5 gap though.

The gap you should worry about.is the one between the tire sidewalls. If they touch while bulging going over bumps.down the road you will have a blowout. Not a matter of if, just a matter of when.

Right Luke! I get that part of it. I think a 1" gap between tires would probably cover most any situation that this truck would be used for. Even with a ton in the box, I would think a 1" gap would suffice for road travel....thoughts?

ordered up some 1.5" spacer/adapters which should give me .900 clearance between the tires.

These wheels had to be sanded before polishing. Because they are forged they required some serious work, not like a cast wheel. The guy doing the work put in about 6-8 hours per wheel...he pretty much took a beating for the $250...his original quote was $200, he had them for 4 months, wasn't happy about that but the results are pretty nice, I gave him $250 because after helping him for 3 hours on just the polishing and buffing of one wheel, I knew he was taking a beating on the price...I knew when I started sanding on them it was going to be a lot of time involved, with better machinery than I had available to me.

The adapter/spacers are coming from this old drag racer:

not the cheapest out there, but after talking with him about them, he made them to my order, asked what wheels I was running, and what size lugnuts etc I wanted...and he's a drag racer...

How bout a 350mph rocket funny car ride back in the 70's?

Here was how mine looked before and after.

I would have easily paid $250 to have mine done.:doah:
I was just glade they could be fixed. I think it took about 14 hours to do all the wet sanding and polishing.

He actually started on these with 180 grit, and there is still some minor pitting here and there where it was difficult to get anything down in the crevace.

Teck, are those Welds you got?
I got some center caps for the rear which are just a few hundredths to big to go through the hole....

Yes they are

I bought all new center caps for mine and found out the same thing. Good thing is they fit the newer weld on my duramax. The old ones are made of a thicker aluminum. I did find some new weld stickers to put on them too.

I think i started with the same grit on some and worked up to 2000 to get them looking that way.

LOL! I think i might be the only one that got what you ment by the .6" gap at the hubs!

sometimes what I'm thinking is easy for me to understand, but conveying it to others I have a problem with.:dunno:

Yes they are

Where did you get the old style...my center holes in the rim measure about 5", and the groove on the backside measures about 5.45...the ones I got are just a bit too big.

you can appreciate the work then...$250 seems cheap to me.

The 2 I have for the back I have since I got the wheels new. i can check with a buddy of mine that is move and cleaning out his shop to see if he may have some of those old style cap that might fit and be cleaned up.

When the new ones I bought didn't fit, I figured I needed to try to polish out the old ones.
Wasn't even sure at that point they would polish out because how bad they looked.

I'd appreciate a check if you can...the ones I have that are too big measure 5.565 on the flange, and just over 5" outside diameter.
The ones I need should measure right about 5" or slightly under to go through my wheels. These would be the long ones to fit over the rear 14bff hubs.
thanks Teck
