Any plans for baffles?

Nope, I have read over some info on foam, and a couple tank baffles but didn't figure I would NEED either....
Do you have an opinion or info. that might change my mind?

being a boat guy, I'm big on baffles, they are a necessity in my life..

not ony do they help with keeping fuel in designated areas for starvation issues (tho obviously, the multi pick-ups helps alleviate that.), they also lessen the beating components in the tank take... gals and gals of fuel sloshing around can have some decent force...

necessary? probably not.. good idea? probably imo...

I didn't have baffles in my old tank and it did crack twice on the weld seam. Not sure if I can blame the lack of baffles or just the crappy RCI aluminum tank that many people have had similar problems but I'm sure baffles would have helped some. Alltech makes some baffles but also some have had good luck with usa made white wiffle balls, just be sure to test them in some gas for a while to verify they would disintegrate. Also have read of guys using cut up oil qt containers. I need to do some research on them myself too, I plan on running them in the new rig. From everything I have read I would stay away from foam.

I'm not a fan of fancy schmancy solutions here, I like actual walls made in the tank...

also keep in mind the tanks I deal with run 75 to 300 gals...

if it where me, I would just do something simple when building the tank.. like here on Kerts setup, I'd probably just add 2 walls with a center opening.. 3rd grade paint here for ya...

I definitely plan on some baffling in the 55 gal one I'm doing for Mutt..

I would run a baffle or two.

Like Paul's excellent paint pic just not as tall and with the bottom corners cut at an angle so the fuel doesn't have to go to the middle to get to the other side.

I like the ideas guys, and Paul, I didn't realize the impact of the fuel hitting internal components. I would guess running dunes and higher speed stuff could beat the heck outta stuff in there. Just think of getting hit in the head with a 5lb water balloon:eek1:....and that isn't even one gallon:haha: ....Other than the pickups, I will only have the fuel level indicator inside the tank, but that could take a beating as well I guess.
I think the pickups will handle the needed supply to the center puck fine, but protecting them might be a good idea.
I will discuss more with Kert, he may regret talking me into this "blackwater" tank! :pimp:

Got some pics of some various baffle setups:

I wish I was close to you I would buy your old tank for my truck.

Its been beat up, a few leaks welded shut and what "baffled" me was that is was completely open inside, it never occured to me that a tank "needed" baffles other than big tanks to prevent weight shifting.
It never did leak, if your interested, maybe we could get it to you in Sept via Cole, or someone crossing the border???

Here you can see where it was hit on the bottom towards the back, and caved in a little...don't leak though, and I had it acid dipped, so it was cleaned of any rust inside, and out.

Also have a new pickup/sender unit for the tank...anyone interested??

Also checking out the pump outlet, it measures .230 I.D. Dam that seems small don't it?
The fuel lines to the injectors are I believe a -4 AN, just seems dam small to support 600 hp?

with a metal tank welding something in would be easy enough. I have read but you might want to confirm that guys use DIY bedliner inside the tank to coat/seal them.

I'll phone you and talk to you about the old tank Dave.
And if you are building a new tank from scratch why not put baffles in it.

I rode with my uncle one time in a semi hauling liquid sugar... no Baffles in the tanker because it was food grade and with baffles the tank can't be sanitized good enough... Man when that sloshed around it hit hard!!

I could see where even 30 gallons could be a problem.

Baffles are a good idea. Not as necessary on this small of a tank, I doubt you'll notice weight shift and with the multiple pickups starvation isn't the issue.

They won't hurt a thing though. I did not run them in mine and have felt I wish I had them. Very simple to put them in though.

Any comments on the previously posted baffle pics?

I like the simplicity of these two, but I guess we'll have to see what fits in around the walbro pickups and tubes to the center puck and the outlet line....

Why exactly Matt? Would that benefit sloshing somehow, or to just protect the integrity of the tank?

Sounds good on the tank Dean...and as far as liquid hitting hard, like I said with the water balloon..:eek1:

Right Kert, I'm not really concerned about weight shift, but as Paul stated, I could see it fatiguing the sending unit.
Something else to add to the wishlist for the tank....

I like the drain idea!
You never know when you need a empty tank, and it's always full if you need to work on it.

I can't figure out where I got that bulkhead fitting Dave. The brass one in the picture of my tank.

Mostly to add a coating seal inside. I helped a friend build a tank for his mini chopper and we got some stuff to pour in and slosh around to seal the inside metal. Seems like I just read about guys using some bedliner product for same idea just recently because it doesn't break down in gas.
