Well the Maiden did great on the overland advneture...I would guess we logged about 500mi total, with probably 300 on road miles. I still get a harsh sound out of the doubler somewhere. Still sounds like a loose bearing or maybe a gear on a shaft. Had it apart not long ago looking for the issue, replaced the bearings in the 205 but to no help. It only happens in HI/HI on the doubler, and only at speeds above 35 or so. When the drivetrain is in a non load situation its noisy until you either put more power input to it, or let off enough to make it decelerate. puzzling, but after hearing it for a few hundred miles it is now more of a concern. Also the on road manners of the D60 and deathwobble have tried to creep up again. taking a few rough roads with lots of dips and potholes made the front end want to go into death wobble, and the hydro assist helped to keep it from going full blown mode. I've tried shimming up the kingpin springs with washers, but it really didn't help. 30-32# in the tires helps immensely, but it is still a problem waiting to happen. I may try bronze bushings next?

Luke caught me cruising through the muddy trail...

Beautiful shots! And damn gewd looking k5..
many of the shots were taken by campfire....him and his wife are camera geeks...they always have the camera in hand! Many thanks Ethan and Melody!

Looking back, I should have taken a picture of each of your fillups. :wink1: :haha:
there could have only been 5-6 I think...reminds me I still need to fill it now that I'm home, guess I'll drive it to work tonight!
you may have destroyed the king pin bushing and/or wore out the spring.
It was all new stuff when the Maiden was built, and its been a day one problem...the hydro assist helped a lot, but you can still feel it wants to go into death wobble on certain roads....It mainly gets trailered to the offroad destination so it has't been a big concern until all these road miles were accumulated. on decent roads it actually rolls along quite well, tires are smooth, and it tracks pretty straight.

Yer welcome, Dave! Neither of us have taken the time to get past the point-and-shoot stage, but we wind up pointing and shooting a lot. :haha: This trip we took 1700 pictures to wind up with the smaller number of shots that are worth sharing. The camera is never far from one of us. :thumb:

It still felt like I was wasting time watching you, only once during the run did I fill up (Ontonagon). :haha:  I ended up running through not quite 3 tanks of fuel in total (numbers for all 3 rigs are in my thread). And your mileage numbers don't count if you haven't recorded the total number of gallons used. That's cheating. :wink1:

We spent a lot of time on non-decent roads this trip. Is this why you slowed down at times?

I didn't want to deal with this so I went with springless arms. I came off the trail once and had death wobble, pulled over, tightened them up a little and drove home without issue. No hydro assist or steering dampener btw....

yeah, I should have kept track of that...I'm just happy it went down the road as good as it did...I have issues, but never having been on the road for more than 20 mi. had me concerned about this trip.

actually I was just observing at times, thinking I could catch up at will, took a few pics, grabbed a mt. dew out of the cooler, etc. basically just being a slacker!
FWIW....having been in convoys of various types of vehicles, when you don't see the vehicle behind you, you stop until they catch up, or you turn around to see what the problem was. This is why I pulled over when I forgot to pay for fuel and you kept taking off again! LOL.

what size tires? Crossover steering?

Very cool Dave. I admire the fact your truck is that good on and off road. I wouldn't trust my truck with a 20 mile road trip...
I had reservations as well Greg...I haven't driven the Maiden on road for more than 20mi. at a time...I have some issues to work out, but I'm much more confident in its roadworthyness now!

I kind of wonder if something is just slightly out of wack. I remember you had major issues with a kingpin on this axle right?

Yes, the threads were out of round...he took a jig and bored the hole, then welded in a sleeve with new threads...
