Aren't the cage tie ins supposed to the other way? It seems like your current setup is just a pivot

Here is all my camera battery had left in it.

It was a great day, we got a lot done, and had a bunch of fun.
I want to thank Blazinzuk, Cybrfire, Shady, Bryce, Dueling, jekquist, Folkenheath, toomany. My appreciation for you guys and all your help is unending.

Eric and I got off to a slow start today, but did some rethinking about a few things, and had to change up a couple plans. The rear portion of the cage will be a raised crossbar section to provide more headroom than the S&W original set up.

The engine cage is just plain cool:

Eric finish welding in the rear bars, we had to use a tie down strap to pull in the sides of the box, as its drooping some, and was an 1.5", so we tied in some plates to the rear bars to strengthen them up.

Dave and I did alot of thinking today and measuring, meeting the front halo with the rear bars in the right place put them way to low,if all the stars and planets align tommorow we still may get the cage finished up, its pretty close.

Also dave put down some very nice welds today so no more welding for me!:D

I'm pretty happy with em too Eric, good thing I had some schoolin' going on there.

Heres for a better day tomorrow!

Thanks for everything again Zim. The rig is coming along real fast now.

Eric got you and your shackles working Killer! You know he will keep you on the right track, look at Horton flex!

And Kert, you can weld better with an upside down bead than I can right side up, I don't know how you do that, impressive.

Everybody did a great job, a lot of stuff got done.

Fantastic progress for one weekend!

How long before you can take it out for a test drive?

I actually thought the same thing after I had them all in and was looking everything over. This was my first rodeo on cage ties, I knew they were there to alow the body to come off. So I oriented them that way to lift it straight up. They should be fine though. Its better than having none at all, and with any luck he wont roll to need them:) The front ones are the only ones that dont seem strong enough. but the shock hoops will be tied to the engine compartment bars right on the other side of the fire wall, so that should stiffen it all up and prevent the front ties from taking all the load.

I also plan on making an anti rotation plate on the front cage tie ins, it will be a flat plate that goes from the flat part of the body mount to the tube so that when pushed down it will not rotate around the bushings

I was thinking of something like that on the ride home. Good thinkin. You guys got quite a bit done still after we all left. My kid was looking at the cage pics and likes it. Were going to do a very similar version in his 72. He wants the big block from daves rig too:haha:

We got the tubing for the front seats mounting pretty well set today, I'm liking the turnout of the seating position, and there comfy.

leveled up the truck before we started putting the bars in.

Lookin pretty comfy dave. To be honest I dont think i sat in the seats one time the whole day, I have no idea why lol. I guess Ill have to make another trip just to sit in it lol.

Damn you guys go alot done! Nice to see this thing on all 4s :waytogo:

LOL seeing the list makes me feel like we didn't get nearly enough done.

I was really bummed about the rear of the cage but I think you guys are really going to like what we came up with there. Its going to have plenty of room even for a big guy in the back seat.

To anyone that is considering an S&W kit, in the Iron Maiden we used 2 bars in their original (the b pillar and the front halo) position. Its not a good cage if you are a big guy at all. If you are smaller than it would work fine but its definitely not for tall people.

Daves rig is going to be a great rig, very very solid where it needs to be. Suspension works out pretty dang good for just having superlift springs in the front.

Very cool rig for sure.

Now back to work Dave, I didn't get a break at all. Started working on that JK yesterday, doing gears and suspension today.

I think I may just go pass out now.

Dave, this is backwards, you need a splined shaft, you have the double flat shaft. Another option is to get a steering column with the double flat shaft out of a newer rig. My stock 83 column would match your XJ shaft.

Eric, we got plenty done, sometimes that take a step back kinda thing jumps into the fray. Hey come on what do you expect coming 1500 miles away, and me having not a good steel supplier, and familiar bender, desired equipment and supplies at hand. We done good.
My forkin' tooth has been killin' me. Got a root canal done today, ohye:doah: coulda had a new set of shocks for the rear, and some cash left over from that one.

your right Heath....My mind has been pretty fuzzy the last few days.
So you got a tilt column your looking to sell?
