Sean, I gotta get plugging away at this thing hard now...backed myself into another corner with all the crap I've been doing...
And I'm really glad I put the 454 in it...:thumb:

Got the hinges painted last night, front end and radiator support are off, I need to make a few mods to the windstar fan shroud...it was close enough to allow the fan motor to touch the idle pulley on the serpentine setup. (Kert is thinking serpentine, serpentine right now) So I'll try to gain some more clearance there somehow, and also this will allow me to get to the hydro assist install a little easier. Also having some issues with the fan relays and fuses...melted one 30amp fuse and holder, and it never blew the fuse????

a pair of old fuelie heads that will see service in the pool room in the future:

Why did you paint the heads black???

Martin

Its what was in the gun!:waytogo:

Those heads are some really desirable 461X heads, arguably the best head put on a 327 a little bigger intake port volume and slightly smaller combustion chamber volume...but they have had some damage to one of the bolt holes, a rocker stud boss is broken and a couple of the valve guide bosses are too. They don't match the build date of my car, so they will just be a display piece for the pool room in the future.

starting the hydro assist tomorrow...I've had some bad death wobble, all new components in front, shimmed the kingpin with a couple fender washers already and it was still present in a huge way. So I plan on doing a tape measure alignment with toe in about 1/8-3/16"...is that where I want it?
After that is set, then I need to center the wheels straight ahead, then figure where to mount the tie rod tabs. The stationary end will be attached to tabs on the 60 cover.

So I just center the tires, then set the ram in the middle of its stroke right?

That'll work Dave.

After you get things set in the center, start up with just tacking the tie rod tabs in place and then turn everything lock to lock by hand and check for any binding and make sure that you got it centered up good. Watch the steering stops on the 60.

Thanks Kert, I knew I was forgetting part of what we talked about...do I need to put the big tires on to check alignment or are the 235's ok? Will there be any issue with alignment adjustments in the future?
Does it matter which hose from the box goes on either end of the ram?

235's are probably your better bet for the alignment purposes. Once you're toe in is set, there shouldn't be any need to adjust again.

Yep, one hose is pressurized with a left and the other with a right turn. Front cap is left if my brains is workin'.

Either way hook the hoses to the ram, leave one end of the ram unattached to the truck turn the wheel see which way it goes.

Cool, I'll hook em up that way to start:waytogo:

good point!

What type/size are the Surplus Center hyd. ram cylinder fittings?
must be A/N?

no idea

I got mine from Redneck then went and bought hose from EVCO.
The thing I did not like about the surplus center ram is the ends are in the wrong direction.

Kert cuts and rewelds them in proper orientation!:thumb:

Thanks Kert...ok I"m getting zero'd in on this Port thread...looks like the ports for the cylinder are SAE ORB (society of Automotive engineers-O ring Base) and the threads are 9/16-18....haven't dealt with this before, can ya tell?

Here is a nice SAE-A/N-NPT explanation for me and any others wondering about the different types of threads/fittings/flares/angles.

I guess I"ll make my own hoses, to have flexibility of where, and how long I want to make them....

I believe these are the -6AN to SAE-6 ORB fittings I need for the ram?

and these would be the end for the steering cover and cap ports 3/8NPT to -6AN...

Using this hose:

Hose Size-6 AN
Teflon® Lined..No
Hose Length (ft)10.000
Outer Material ..Braided stainless steel
Hose Color ..Natural
Hose Material...Synthetic rubber
Hose Inside Diameter (in)0.344 in.
Hose Outside Diameter (in)0.563 in.
Minimum Recommended Temperature-40 degrees F
Maximum Recommended Temperature350 degrees F
Maximum Operating Pressure (psi)1,000 psi

Do I need higher pressure rating on the hose?

and these hose ends:
