AJ, quarters on this thing are hacked on there, full of mud, and generally aren't worth doing anything with if something drastic were to happen, now they looked good in mud before the "professional bodyshop" got their hands on it, and they will stay for now...things could be better sure, with a SW body maybe, but as you know, for MI this truck ain't bad, it has some rust, and I may get into it more in the future, or I may not, depends on what I get into next that may require some surgery. But for now it goes on like it is...the rest of the floorpan in the back is pretty solid, the weak points were around the factory wheelwells, and that all got cut out when I made the bigger wheelwells. The two front floorboards have had some quick replacement work done with sheetmetal and they work for now, so on to bigger fish for now.
I won't go looking for a reason to bash it up, but I know eventually it will show some scars, and it will have to be re-evaluated when that happens.

Gotcha. Kinda figured as much but wasn't sure what was going on. Worse case guys on here have used far worse bodies and repaired far worse bodies.
 
Right, something that I've thought about too.
With the cage made to fit this body and frame, it would probably be easier/less time consuming/less money to fix what isn't right than it would to do a body change...now if I had one sitting in the back yard, that might be a different story.
Keith Blazer had a 2wd I could have had for a stupid cheap price, but had no way to get it home without major expense.

My stock jumps from 10ga. down to 14ga. Don't normally have any 12 or 11. Thinking that gauge for the floor panel itself?

Hinged door no problem.
 
yeah, thinking it may be 12" between floor supports at any given point...14 may be a bit thin as I will also be mounting a few anchor points to the floor pan itself, so 12 may be better for it?

I'm looking at 36x52 approx....something you can get, or bring it with me to cut on your table?

Another 65 worrh of steel for the floor plate and structural members
A day in the shop tomorrow should yoeld some good progress
 
that was phone fat fingering and old eyes not being able to see what I'm typing.
 
got the rest of the floor supports welded in, ground smooth, and primed.
put the skid and tank back in to trial fit the floor piece in...think I got it figured out where everything has to be cut and the trap door for the fuel filler.
I will wait to weld in the fuel tank support rails when I get Kerts tank in position and know its right, instead of hoping it works with the cardboard prototype.
this 12ga sheet seems pretty stout, we'll see if I need to add structural pieces to the bottom of it when I get it in there.

thanks guys, I'm liking how its turning out, didn't plan on going down this road, but its the right thing to do!
The 12 ga. is stout, but I don't know how it will be between 44" span from side to side, I may tack some angle on the bottom side of it to provide support, but that will have to wait until I see what might be in the way on the bottom side of the floor.
I have just shy of 3" of clearance between the cardboard tank and the bottom of the floor right now, the riser on the filler neck is less than 2", as well as the fuel lines on the top side...they both have a sharp 90* elbow as soon as they come out of the filler plate.
I still need to figure out how and where to run the vent line to provide the 3 sides and down spill containment in case of rollover, or flop....hey it could happen!
Also need to figure out a battery mount (having Kert build a battery tray as well) just above the battery cut off switch in the rear corner of the cage.

Yes Kert that was part of the steel I got monday.
Have you cut any of the tank yet?
Just thought about the filler plate location....
I think my cardboard tank and the drawing might have a different location for that plate?
I'll have to get the tank centered and take measurements from the frame to the tank sides so we can get the access door in the right place
