Next time we go to the yard (which I'm overdue to do) I'll check on it....looking for any particulars on it? He turns stuff over to scrap as well, so I'm not sure if it will even be around.

Fuel tank final mounting done, used a piece of Garloc gasket material between the tank and frame mounts for a bit of cushioning between the two.
Had a couple handles welded to the tank to facilitate removal from above.

I'm going to mount the fuel pump in front of the skid plate and tank, it will be right at the level of the Walbro pickups inside the tank. A simple box type bracket to mount it to the skid plate front side....

Zimm you have a dead bug on your skid plate. :eek1:
I know, he was walking right onto the freshly welded plate as I was taking that pic....once he got into it, he couldn't get out....:haha::haha::haha:

Looks awesome !:waytogo:
That plate looks hack to me John, not sure what design would be better though...I need to hang it off the front of the fuel tank skid plate to appease the requirement for placement of the pump in relation to the pickups, either there or off the frame, but then it would be more susceptible to trail and debris damage??

Even though a Scout car is basically a half track but with wheels on the back, quite a bit of the parts are different. My dads scout car is pretty rough so he needs quite a bit for it. I would cry if that half track got scrapped. They are sooo hard to find parts for. One of the most difficult WWII vehicles to restore (besides tanks and airplanes lol)

Ryan, I will try to set up a time with my dad (the yard is by his house 40 mi from me) and we'll check it out again....In the meantime I can ask him to drive by the yard and see if its within eyesight.

Ryan, Pop said the half track isn't in sight, they may have moved it, sold it, scrapped it????....there is a 5 ton crane type truck out there, but no half track to be seen.
He is a member of the military vehicle preservation assoc. He said there are listings and vendors who sell stuff for the half-tracks if you want he can get you some names and numbers or if your looking for particular parts he can watch the for sale ads in the mag....let me know if your interested in any of that.

Got the bracket for the fuel pump tacked on today, waiting for the fittings to get here before I nail it for good...this position should work out well with the pump being level with the bottom of the tank away from suspension, and out of direct line of fire from debris hitting it. The inlet line can be disconnected from the pump to drain the tank and if the tank comes out that line will come with it...the pump can be taken off the skid plate with those two mounting bolts shown, and both lines will be able to be disconnected from the pump, with the pump, tank, and skid plate all left in place for easy servicing.
I will make a bolt on shield to cover the inlet line that is showing.

Adam, carb is on the way... let me know when it arrives!

Bolt it, on fill up the bowl, and let er rip!
yep!

If it don't work out, it will get an opportunity on the CC!

Allow me to bring a different point of view. I bet you have already thought about it though.

With the pump mounted to the skid in the event that the skid gets bent ( I realize small with most of your wheeling) that may move the location of the pump to where it gets damaged. I think you have probably left enough room for that there but its a thought.

The other thing that you might possibly think about is branches. When wheeling out in the woods I have had tree branches get stuck in between the skid plate and the gas tank and hit some might weird things.

I realize these are both worse case scenarios but something to think about.

Can't wait to wheel with you again Dave looking very much forward to it

No, but thanks anyway. My dad gets a bunch of those magazines as well. And only buys stuff every now and then. Those parts are usually expensive!

good points and well taken Eric....as mentioned I will put a bolt on shield covering the line from the tank to the pump, and I will see where/what I need to do to protect the line from the pump to the top of the frame...that line will have a 90* from the hard line in the frame, and go towards the pump (towards the center of the vehicle) from there, it should be good, but something I'll watch for!
The pump itself will be fine with the mounting plate its on, it has about 2" of clearance movement at "beyond full stuff" of the rear axle. The timbrens would have to be flattened out completely and then it would still have some clearance left!

OK Ryan....got any pics of said Scout?

Did you ever try your rivnut setter yet? Since my DIY method failed I ended up picking up a marson 325-rn setter and mandrels up to 3/8s.

I got the kit Matt, but have been messing around with fuel system still....hopefully I'll get to it soon.

got the line from pump to frame hard line made up today, this is working out well.

I'll play around with some shielding soon too.
