how come I didnt remember that screen door boat that floats????

good one Greg....clean it up, and plaster that sh!t on!!!:pimp:

rear floor pan is coming along nicely....
the HomePro rivet kit.
The aluminum rivets seem to work nicely...they are .385 around the serated edges, and call for a .375 drilled hole for install, so tapping them in is a requirement, the sample piece I tried on some thicker than what I'm using for my floor, but when seated it mushroomed out to .455. After using the installation tool (after getting the right amount of pull depth set) they feel real solid...When putting some of the pan head screws in with a drill driver, a couple started kinda hard...maybe a burr, or slightly off center hole ....but they didn't slip the rivsert in its hole. I ran them in and out a few times, letting the drill driver seat them onto the floorpan metal with a bit of torque as well, then turned them back out, the seem secure.

Are you sealing that or is that not a concern?

I'm going to use some 3M strip caulk for the floorpan, as it will be removable...the strip caulk will seal, but will also be removable and reusable if the floorpan has to come up, and not leave a mess to clean up when you peel it off. I will also put some roll on bedliner on both sides of the floorpan and the tops of the framing members as well.

Looking awesome, Dave. Those rivserts are pretty damn cool.

Where did ya get the set?

was going to ask the same :sign17: that is a nice kit!!!

Great attention to details.

The kit description:

  • HPA06001
  • Professional, heavy duty rivet nutsetter kit in a blow-molded case
  • Nutsetter tool, 7 adapters / nose pieces, 62 aluminum nutserts
  • Screw sizes: 6/32, 8/32, 10/24, 10/32, 1/4-20, 5/16-18, 3/8-16
  • Allows you to adjust the depth you need to set your nutsert
  • Accommodates both metric and fractional nutserts
  • Allows for sizes from 6/32 - 3/8 and from 4mm - 8mm
I ordered extra 1/4-20 nutserts and the button head stainless machine screws....those were another $30 or so.

Might have to get me a set of those. Wonder if they'll work with the nutserts I have now.

Dave, do you know if they have an airtool for the crimp?

I didn't see one from this place, but go to post 4084, there is a few videos from Cardinal that show a pneumatic driver being used....FAST too.:waytogo:

How much effort to pinch them down? The setter I got it more like a bolt cutter style.

Matt, that looks like a much better leverage arrangement than the tool I have...the aluminum isn't much effort, I could see a steel insert being more effort unless they are made in such a way as to reduce that effort (thinner metal in the crimp zone?)
The aluminum I was doing with one had to begin with...much like clamping a pair of vise-grip pliers...you can do it one hand, but two makes it easier.

So, I just read this thing from the first post, to well I guess now. I will say it has taken a large dent out of a half gallon of Kellers Whiskey, which is not Jack Daniels, but not bad when you have been out of work for 6 months, I mean hell, its 14$ a half gallon, and im attempting to drink the whole thing, and this is an amazing build. And I thank Jesus for auto spell correct thing. You sir do amazing work, and you are lucky that you have some of the brotherhood to help you. I, at 26, have lost most of my friends that had projects to alcohol, women, or kids. Luckily, I have managed to keep the project, raise my kids, consume entirely to much alcohol, and mostly change women like a bank changes change. So, mine is mostly self done. You sir, are a great fab man  and I wish I was closer up there to wheel with you all. And I am entirely wasted, and im glad for auto spell.

:doah:I'd never believe it. :D:D

thats funny Jim...I heard the difference between a good welder and a great welder is the amount of grinding you have to do....same goes for fab and other stuff as well....I've come a long way with my skills on this project, still look at some welds and think they should be ground out and redone, but they're getting the job done....so many things I would change if to do it over again, but I'm pretty dam happy with "the Maiden"!

Hahaha, glad to provide some entertainment!
Thanks for the comps,; its been a fun journey so far, pretty rewarding too. The Maiden is dam fun to take out and wheel with.

to reply on warrenty question. they gave me a tube of sealent for the roof,to patch where there was a miss:doah:! no service at all:confused: second trailer i buy there and last!!!

that sucks, I've always thought service is just as important as the sale....so sad that many don't see it that way....I tend to patonize the good service places!:waytogo:

Refused coverage???...

Hagerty Ins. contacted us today Dave---won't cover it.

As soon as they saw the pictures they wanted ---They said "sorry it's clearly designed for off road use, it does not qualify..":doah::dunno:

This sucks!

The previous insurer wanted an appraisal to continue coverage.
We thought it was to make sure the truck was in quality condition.
Got that done (don't want it insured for the appraised value at all) and they said "Oh it's modified, we don't cover modified vehicles!"

I'll need to check with the Broker I use for the company fleet.
Maybe if I offer to move the 2 trucks, car and bike over they would give us an option.

This may be a major problem for our travel, wheeling plans.:eek1:

I went thru h**l getting mine insured because of the lift. The only company that would take it was American collectors insurance.

John, I mentioned to them that I was only looking for on road insurance, accident coverage and comprehensive (fire, theft, mother nature, etc)...as obviously off road isnt' covered....I do trailer mine most of the time, so driving it isn't a big concern, but it is legal by the definition....clean title, and on road insurance coverage, plated, lights etc. MI doesn't check squat so we are lucky there.

That is helpful info.

Thanks for the details.:waytogo:
I'll talk to a rep and explain that I don't want any sort of replacement coverage just to be able to do 6 or7000 miles or so a year with legal coverage.

Fingers crossed!!!!:dunno:

Didn't mean for this to be a derail.......but thanks a bunch!!

not a problem John, just don't mention my name in case I'm getting away with something!!!!

Good luck man!

State Farm insures all my trucks Full coverage. Never batted an eye about the lifts or any other modification as far as that goes.
