It ain't going on right away, but yes, I will devise a new setup so it doesn't touch the doubler at all.

Got the trans and doubler both mated up again...need to make a few tweaks to a doubler crossmember and then hook up torque convertor, shifters, driveshafts, cradle supports, linkage, venting for all them all, fill them all w/ fluid, and take a test spin tomorrow!

Any changes planned to reduce the chances of a cracked transmission case? Or did you find a stronger case?

Yeah, leave off the skid for now

I will re-engineer it later so its frame mounted only and not touching any of the drivetrain.

Sweet stuff!

Thanks, was hoping to have some progress reports today, but my stepmom just died last night, its been a hectic day and probably a few more to come as well...but I'm determined to get it done enough to be at the hillbilly dunefest.

Dave, it's been a long time, nice to see you went with the EFI! I love that EFI too, works awesome.

As for your cracked trans, it may be the skidplate if it was solid mounted to the frame. However, it could also be that you have multiple poly mounts on the drivetrain side, and only two on the engine side. Every time you add another mounting point it makes the whole of the mount system a little stiffer. So you may have significantly stiffer drivetrain than engine mounting. You always want the engine mounts to be the same or stiffer than the trans mounts, you never want trans mounts stiffer than the engine mounts. So if you do crack another one, I'd have a serious look at reducing the number of poly mounts on the tranny side of it (or making them all inline on center instead of dual mounts). But hopefully the new skidplate will fix the issue.

agreed Heath, up til Bundy hill I had no issues, I'm still convinced my drivetrain mounting is OK, and that the skidplate pushing up on the pass side of the transfer case (and in the opposite direction of engine torque) is what twisted the drivetrain enough to crack the trans case.
I ran it for a couple hours that day as well, but hammering on it in the dragstrip with some big whoops in it is what did it in.

Today while putting the front driveshaft in I noticed a clunk while I moved it around on the floor...sounded eerily familiar like the rattle that I've noticed in the drivetrain while in a coasting situation...the slip joint on the front driveshaft was dry, tried to grease it with a grease gun and the grease zerk was plugged, so I put in a new one and greased it up, we'll see if that might make a difference as well???

Front hubs replace wheel studs
Mount tires/alum wheels
Replace PS pump….flush PS system
Fix 205 front output rattle...DONE???
Install trans/doubler...DONE
Install driveshafts...DONE
Install shifters...DONE
Oil change and lube
Run vent hoses for drivetrain...DONE
Tiedowns for rear bed area
Latch for gas door
Customize tarp cover

Decided to use the CC to tow with....just got it out from the garage this AM, started right up, runs/drives great...and got 40gal of fuel for the basement bargain price of 3.38/gal.

Got the vent lines ran from all the drivetrain components, and got the PS pump off, awaiting a new one on order.

aint bad for almost 40 yrs old eh?
Decided as long as I havn'et torn it apart yet, might as well get some enjoyment out of it!

My first skid plate broke my tranny also! I built the new skid to the frame only and have had zero problems since.:waytogo:

Big sexy rig!
i love driving that truck !

Three tits indeed Dean!!!!

Heath I thought I would have had the 454 out by now, but until I'm ready to jump in with both feet, I will leave it intact and driveable.
I'm into Reds, so it will be something darker than the current orangy red, but haven't zero'd in on it just yet...much to be done before paint!
