80 Jimmy - The Monkey Paw (Time to finish interior)

Idea with this was to build it robust, and simple, and utilitarian. KISS principal.
Just went out and knocked on the floor. If it does do any deadening, it's not noticeable still rings. Just info for future reference.

Ok, so I assume that these fiberglass tops are about 400lbs. How are people pulling them off? Need to reseal underneath. I cannot get this thing in my garage. How have you guys done it?

Yours isn't that heavy. Two guys can grab it.

What would you estimate it weighs? Was really hoping I'd be able to do it in driveway w/o building some kind of rig.

393 lbs

Maybe not. Used to take a 72 double wall top off with the rear glass still in it with 2 guys

Mine is a full vert but I'm guessing 200-250 I used to back my truck up to the blazer drop both tailgates stand in the middle and walk it from one to the other , going on was always a little more work cause the blazer sat higher but it wasn't too bad , it's definitely a two person job.

Thanks guys.

So It's pretty universal that the seals that LMC has suck donkey balls on fit. I see A1 come up and brothers occasionally. Who's got the best fit - going to do all of it doors, tailgate everything...

Used to take my full vert top off with 2 people in my younger days.
Last time I hoisted it up 3 or 4 years ago in the garage and has been there since.
I used to lift one side and place a piece of 2x4 between the top and bedside, do the other side the same and then lift it off with the help of another.
With a third person inside I skipped the 2x4's

The full top sucks. I have taken it off and put it back on by myself, but I HATE it.

The half top is relatively easy for me to take off and put back on by myself.

But you are bigger than quite a few of us!!
But Nebraska knows how to grow big farm boys!

The half top is fairly easy to do by yourself. It's much easier going off then on.

I agree with Martin the full topper sucks by yourself.

So, it's not genetics it's the fact that I didn't grow up in Nebraska that I'm not a big guy huh... lol

Don't feel bad I am tall and slim to then you have my wifes family where guys are 6'8 400 and make me feel like total B&$ch!

Yeah, if I could actually get my truck inside the garage, I'd have thought about something like that...

my method for half top removal solo goes something like this:

Unbolt everything. Cut a 2X4 about a foot wider than the truck and get it inside the truck through the drivers or passenger door. Crouch under the hardtop at the front of it and lift from a crouched position using your legs. Slide the 2x4 under the front bolt position then set the top down again. Run some 3/4-1" long lag bolts into the 2x4.

Step over the rear seat and lift the topper in the same manner as before, and walk it back 2-3 feet. Get yer ass out of the truck, and lift the topper from the back while pulling it back. The 2x4 from earlier will keep it from sliding off the bedsides. Keep pulling it back until the 2x4 is at the rear foot of the back of the truck (usually til the 2x4 hits the alignment dowels at the rear) and lower the back of the topper until it's resting on the ground.

Now you can gently walk the topper (back corner, pivot, other back corner, pivot repeat...) to a carport or garage wall for storage.

I've done this myself many many times, and I'm no Nebraska farm boy. I'm 5' 10" and 160 lbs...

The hardtop is 188 lbs with sliding side windows, a few lbs lighter with fixed glass.
