'81 K5, "BlaZeus"- How to NOT build the ultimate budget K5; 3 & 4 link build

That saw you're using is just a chop saw and you're using a standard carbide tipped blade, like a nicer table saw blade?

Hahaha!!! I just realized that's a napkin dispenser in the bottom right corner! On my phone it looked like a welder or something and the sticker on it made me assume that even more! Wow... :doah:

Might wanna go have those eyes checked out if you haven't gone in a while!:haha::rotfl:

Hey so I think I may have made a mistake in the axle mounting of the trailing arms. They hang way too low and were also mounted to the front of the axle in the PO setup.
This is a problem. So, do I move them to the original mount location and then Fab new frame mount brackets that are closer to the front of the truck?
Another thing, I want to take this thing to Moab for blazer bash and the trailing arms are not going to cut it. So can I make another set of links to replace the trailing arms for crawling and then Fab Coilover mounts on the the link or would I have to mount them to the axle and Fab some new upper Coilover mounts?
I know this is a lot but it's just what I've been wrestling with the last few days and I am just trying to solve a problem.
Thanks!

Depending on what you want the truck to do, link mounted shocks might be better, how long are the shocks again?

There is a massive difference in the spring rates and damping when you move the shocks from a 2:1 ratio to 1:1.
Trailing arms are good for go fast if that's the main deal, if not I'd go to the axle, less of a pain if you don't go fast all the time.

14" in the rear. I want to go 16" though. I think I am going to re-build it into a crawler. I am going to be working with a guy to build a LT kit for my tundra so I'll build that as the prerunner now most likely.

When I can afford to link my stuff its gonna be a hybrid, not pure crawler, but fully capable of doing so, and not pure desert truck but also fully capable

I gonna mess around with angles and mounting the shocks. I think I will end up with front shocks mounted just behind the axle and kind of an upper trailing arm type.

If I can cheat a couple inches in front and double that in the back I will be happy.

The biggest thing though is gonna be where the travel is. Pure crawlers set it up 20% up 80% down. Or even less up. I plan on about 40% up and 60% down.

It's not that bad to set up a truck to go decently fast and to crawl pretty well.

But if you talk to a pure crawling guy or a pure desert guy they will tell you different.

My truck does severel things well. It does not do one thing awesome. I intend to keep it that way

I set ride height to be 46% up and 54 down. what would this be considered?

Absolutely! I'll definitely keep this in mind and will (not?...) hopefully be able to show you what not to do? Lol.
What tubing is strong enough for a link to support a Coilover do ya think?
