'81 K5, "BlaZeus"- How to NOT build the ultimate budget K5; 3 & 4 link build

I'm gonna fabricate the link I use to mount the coilover to. IF I end up doing it that way. I'm gonna do alot of mock-up and math before I start on the finalproduct

So a tube link? And if so like a .25" wall tube? Or a plated link like a trailing arm?

There is some guys mounting the coilover just ahead of the axle on the link, you still have to gusset it but not as much as a canoe style trailing arm.. Short course trucks sometimes get this style setup, it works pretty good.

If your going crawler status id angle the rears in behind the back seat that'll gain some articulation, and lower that front end down.

I'll check that out.
Do you mean angle the rear Coilovers? And then lower the front end of the truck down?

Welcome to the dark side of crawling, now you are going to understand why stuff needs to bring the beef. How much you think those 2.5" OD .5" wall links are going to weigh, hahaha

2.5 .5 wall is stupid heavy lol.

Hence why I'm gonna fab my stuff if I ever get the chance too

My lowers were 28Lbs each IIRC..... Then I swapped them for a stronger 7075 version that weighed 12Lbs. :yikes:

So...not aiming for "the ultimate budget build" anymore? :dunno:
hahaha touche....
Not really since I am no longer a broke college student with very little money...no i totally still am. i was just throwing it out there as an option, who knows, maybe I could find some cheap surplus somewhere out there....or see if one the shop labs has some lying around from a previous project...

Hey, so if I wanna make BlaZeus crawl, the motor is gonna need some work. Currently, the 1406 edelbrock carb causes the engine to die at an incline. Would I be better off modifying the carb or swapping in a TBI system? Or another option?? Both of these I have never done but am starting to do some more research. My buddy mentioned to me something about an overflow valve?Eventually I'll swap in a LS FI motor but I'm just trying to get to Blazer Bash and get out alive at this point. Thanks!

Would you be better with TBI? I think so, especially on inclines.

But if you are serious about LS swapping, it may not be worth putting much into that engine at this point.

For a crawler. Or well just about anything that's gonna be on crazy angles fuel injection is the only way to go.

Engine just sat and idled perfectly on this angle.

They had winched me down just a bit to make sure I didn't lose oil pressure. Cause I had at one point.

I had run a carb for years and I had it working dang good but it still died on occasion. Usually at the worst possible time

Yeah, keep in mind that I will be doing it myself, not paying someone else to do it. Looking at everything that goes into the LS swap, I feel like it could be a good year before my truck is ever on the road again, so that's why I was thinking about saving that for after Blazer Bash. Even the TBI swap seemed like a huge project. However, if anyone here has done it with excellent step by step instructions on how to hook everything up and what goes where or if anyone lives in the central coast/ Santa Maria, CA area and might be able to help out then I'll definitely be interested!
