'81 K5, "BlaZeus"- How to NOT build the ultimate budget K5; 3 & 4 link build

For a crawler. Or well just about anything that's gonna be on crazy angles fuel injection is the only way to go.

Engine just sat and idled perfectly on this angle.

They had winched me down just a bit to make sure I didn't lose oil pressure. Cause I had at one point.

I had run a carb for years and I had it working dang good but it still died on occasion. Usually at the worst possible time
That is absolutely ridiculous. :eek1::eek::yikes::yikes::yikes::waytogo::usaflag::truck:flagwaver

Yeah, keep in mind that I will be doing it myself, not paying someone else to do it. Looking at everything that goes into the LS swap, I feel like it could be a good year before my truck is ever on the road again, so that's why I was thinking about saving that for after Blazer Bash. Even the TBI swap seemed like a huge project.

This is my point. Both conversions are significant time investments. If you think you'll be yanking the sbc out within the year, why would you put in a bunch of time & funding to get TBI fitted, just to gut it out in a few months? If you think you'll be doing the LS next year, I'd finish out the time with the carb and just jump into the LS at that point. Your time is worth too much to justify doing it twice.

Both conversions have plenty of tech info on here.

What motor do you have? Small block? Vortec heads?
Just a crate sbc 350 with "stock like" iron heads. Probly less than 5,000 miles on it. I was gonna put aluminum heads on it but that's not gonna do me any good if my truck is dieing on inclines and so they are kinda on the bottom end of the long list of stuff I want to do.

Really?? Wow okay. So then just tbi, aluminum heads and tuned carb and hammer it??:burnout:

No, you still want TBI. What I was saying was trading a brand new one for a worn out junk-yard pull is a step in the wrong direction. A fresh 350 is a fine engine, with TBI or TPI it will be even better. And it will last a whole lot longer than an engine that's already at the end of its life.

There was an ad for TBI stuff in the classifieds section recently. Or you could probably head down to your local junkyard.

Id leave the heads alone, but that's just me.

If you do heads, you start the snowball into doing other mods to make the heads worth it....

Id just leave the thing alone aside from TBI, and later on when you want more power, do it then.

@Deuling Is right.. a sbc even with the worst heads can run really well as long as you dont bitch out on the cam intake and carb.. the rest can be changed later..

Make sure that whatever cam, heads etc. is compatible with a stock TBI computer otherwise you're looking at tuning it.

Hey guys, I apologize for the lack of updates lately. Please forgive me. However, there just hasn't been much to report on. I worked on exhaust piping for installing a muffler a couple weeks back and never got finished and with moving into a new place and my truck and shop equipment still in old garage, haven't gotten any work done. I was supposed to move into the new shop on May 1, but there was a miscommunication with the current tenants and so I gave them an extra 2 weeks which means I should be moving in this weekend! WOOO! FINALLY!!

In other news, a good buddy of mine whose 1956 Jeep Willies I worked on for him a little bit last year, got some new toys to play around with and since he is a major workaholic, never has time to work on Willfred. So after wanting me to buy it off him, and me having no money....lol...he decided to give it to yours truly:D

And boy is it a sweet rig...
Original '56 Willies body with tube flat front fenders And stinger front bumper
Chevy Vortec 4.3L V6 carbureted, t350 auto trans hooked up to dual t-cases with twin sticks.
Leaf Springs over Toyota axles. Full boxed frame. Crossover steering. Fuel cell.

Since it's already pretty built and I don't have a lot of money, plans for now are just a full cage and the ignition system needs some work. I keep burning out ICM'S :dunno::doah:. But eventually will do 3 link front with Coilovers, front winch and considering retiring the V6, and swapping the sbc from BlaZeus into Willfred and then swap an LS into BlaZeus.
Here is an old pic of Willfred and BlaZeus having some guy time.
