'81 K5, "BlaZeus"- How to NOT build the ultimate budget K5; 3 & 4 link build

So many choices! Does the new house have a shop or are you going to keep renting the one you are in? Owning a home definitely has its downfalls but it is nice. Just make sure everything is good to go with the house itself, because home repairs get expensive fast! A water leak under our kitchen sink cost us a little over 5k and that was with us doing all the work ourselves. We even went cheap and bought unfinished cabinets and stained them ourselves. That's just one example... We have had quite a few things that bit us because we overlooked them. So other than that I say go for it man! Roommates are great! I had a friend of mine living with me for a couple years and he ended up being one of the greatest friends I've ever had and he had to pay me rent! Good luck man! Let's see what Wilfred turns into!
I would definitely be buying something with at least a garage...I would have to give up the shop, which I am fine with at this point. I'm over living out of it and I can only afford one space at a time.
Wow that is a crazy expensive leak! Thanks for the heads up! My dad is a home repair guru so it will definitely be nice to have him around when stuff goes wrong.
I definitely will have roommates as I probably couldn't afford something by myself, nor would I want to.
Thanks for the insight and encouragement! We will see what happens!

With #BlaZeus finally running like a champ again, decided to take it to the dunes and prove that it can run with the big (and slow) dawgs. First trip out since getting stuck on the beach over a year ago + nothing broke = SUCCESS. Drove 70 for 20 miles on the freeway on the way there and back and ran it pretty hard out on the dunes, temp never got above 190, and hit some pretty gnarly whoops at like 30-40 mph...it might be a little soon, but I think I can say that this build was a success :saweet::woot:
Thanks for all the help y'all. This truck would probably be broke apart to pieces if not for y'alls help! :thumb::bow:

Built a little battery holder box out of some spare angle and flat bar. Bungees did not hold up to the bouncing out in the dunes.

Next little project is to swap the fuel cells between BlaZeus and Wilfred. The 17 gal capacity was not cutting it anymore and I think the capacity of the cell in the Willys is 22 gal? Still not the 30-35 gal I want but it's free and it fits in between the floor cross tubes so why not? Also, I would like to make Wilfred a 4 seater in the future and the lower profile tank will make that possible. I have been wanting to do this swap for a while but there was so much other stuff to work on that I never got around to it.
The fuel cell that was in the Willys is a steel tank and looking inside there looks like there's a lot of crap at the bottom. While I have it unbolted should I cut a large hole out of it and clean it out real well and then just weld that hole back up? Also, since it is steel, if I'm going to be cutting the metal, could I just cut off the top piece, and extend the sides up a few inches to get extra capacity? I understand that this is unlikely as the fuel pickup is a tube that runs from the top of the tank to the bottom and I'd probably have to modify that as well...any ideas, thoughts, suggestions? Thanks!

Soo.... Not selling it?
Probably not for another couple months. Talked to a lender to see what I qualify for and it is not going to be enough to buy something worthwhile in the city I want to live. So probably going to have to wait a while and rent until a killer deal comes on the market....why? You interested? :deal::whistle:

Nah, I don't need another one lol.

Just curious.

Go to dunes more.

Diggin the flags on the dodge. :waytogo:

I plan to...I'd like to get the correct spring setup for the rear first. I'm gonna see if I can use a buddies scale to weigh the truck at each of the four wheels to get a more accurate weight, rather than approximating like I have been. Unless someone else has a truck that is similar in build to mine and has weighed it?

Yeah man! I go to church and growth group with the guy with the yota and his brother has the Dodge and is involved in another church but both are super rad guys. It's nice to have bro's who are also into wheeling. :woot:

Finally got the front bumper back on there!

Now that BlaZeus is pretty much done, what do I gotta do to get a GMOTM award...:dunno::whistle::haha:

I'm not sure it fits that bill.. otherwise it doesn't look half bad.
BTW...I'm really jealous that you get to resurrect the Raffo Blazer. I spent many a days drooling over that thing and looking at all the little details and parts of it. That is what I originally was planning to build this truck modeled after and then race it in class 3.
