83/09 4bt K5 (BB2016)

How much do you get for a 4BT? I have a small amount of interest in building one someday. But the price tag scares me off every time I look at them. :dunno:

I think it is kind of ridiculous what they are worth to be honest, ive been getting $3250-$35oo for them, and i was figuring the adapter/th400/and 205 with torque converter was worth around $1000.
All the ones i have had have been relatively low mileage (70-80k) and are p-pumps with intercooler and all the piping, so still a pretty decent deal compared to some places around the country selling them. With the fuel plate removed and the boost turned up im sure it would be even more fun. But i have other stuff for going fast :)

Ah. And here I was thinking they were still in the $2500 range. I'm definitely gonna stick with my 6.2 engines for now. :)

you can easily pickup one with a VE pump for that much or less, ive just been getting a lot for mine because of the low miles and p-pump

Love the front end conversion. Definitely looks kinda like a bronco tho. Looking into doing this to mine. Except I just picked up some glassworx fiberglass front fenders for an 07 Silverado and will install those. Did you also switch out the core support to one of that year?

i didnt switch anything out, the only parts off a newer truck are the headlights, grill, and the front of the hood. i just used a plasma cutter to cut the blazer support up to make the headlights fit. This winter when i swap out frames and front suspension i'll probably clean it up a lot and make it look better. Using fenders off an 07 plus would probably work pretty good and you can widen them to give it a prerunner look

Got the blazer out the other day, obviously i didnt bother dusting it off. You can see the rear flexing a little, and the front not at all, hopefully putting 52s up front this winter. forgot how much fun it was to drive.

oh wow cool thanks! so then did you cut off the front of the hood off an 07+ and just weld it on to the front of yours?

Do you have any pics of that? Trying to visualize adding 10" to the width of the hood and having it still line up with the body.

i only added 5 inches to the new hood part

the 2009 hood was narrower than the k5 hood, i just centered the new front on the old hood and then made the extra couple inches on each side out of sheetmetal

Edit: i guess it wasnt as much as i thought, but i did add some, mostly because i redid the front of the fenders to match the curve of the headlight

oh okay i get what you're saying now. yeah I think i am just going to need to get a new 07+ hood because i am pretty much converting the entire front end with the NNBS glass fenders, grille and headlights. after all that, i highly doubt my stock hood is going to fit the same way it did before. lol. oh well, just more $$$ going into aesthetics than i ever desired. haha :doah::dunno::rolleyes:

Since it seems like i never actually work on it anymore i thought i could post a picture from last summer.

The suburban was my buddies, we found it in his dads quonset and put a 6 inch lift on it, it had 73k miles and was almost in perfect condition. It had been parked for 14 years. We put 2 new batteries in it and the 6.2 started on the 14 year old diesel. Later i ended up giving him $700 for it and then trading it for a one ton 4 wheel drive crew cab which i planned on building. But someone driving by stopped and wrote me a check for more than i thought it was worth.

I started looking for a blazer camper, i hope to get it solid enough to take out to colorado for a couple days in the spring. So if anyone sees one for sale on craigslist or somewhere let me know, definitely dont want a chalet, but the actual pop up camper for the blazer.

The orphaned Chalet shells-only are noted by the push-pin shape things at my map I have for our Chalet forum 'for sale' list here - remember, the Chalet forum is free to join, and one of the perks is access to the 'for sale list' (I'm out weekends, thus membership request approvals tend to be delayed at those times). Last I heard a couple of months ago, the gutted #1033 Chalet shell was still free for the taking in Sheldon Iowa, but the owner is hypersensitive about guys who say they are going to show up to take it on a particular day but never show up.

What I don't keep track of is another alternative, namely the aftermarket 4Wheel brand or Hallmark brand pop-ups that were specifically made for square body Blazers and Jimmys. If you do a site-specific search of Craigslist like this, that's when some of those aftermarket pop-ups can be found.

Wait...the NW Iowa shell is still free?

I've been considering gutting out a regular 8' shell and cutting out the back of a pickup truck to build a full-size camping truck that way. The Chalet comes with the front already gone, and I already have a 1/2-way functional K5. This is tempting. I'm even going to be heading that direction for the holidays.

I'm gonna hafta think about this for a few days....

What's the difference? A chalet is pretty much just a pop-up camper for a blazer (with an extra foot or so hanging out the back).

the chalet still sticks up a lot higher when the top is down. i want something i can still take wheeling

Went and got the rear leafs off the old rear end to put up front. Then went home and ordered heim joints to 4 link it instead. And while im 4 linking it, i might as well throw in the high pinion dana 60 i have. And while im doing that i need to change transfercases. So while im doing that, i might as well swap in a 4l80 i have laying around too. But while im doing all that i should probably go pick up a better frame from martin.
