If anyone was following the Rubicon Trip thread then you know I had some breakage that sent me home earlier
bmxbryant9, his buddy Nick and myself made plans to run the old Rubicon trail that went through Wentworth Springs and ended at Loon lake where we would meet up with k85octane and wetoolowdingbangow for a night of camping at Loon.
Here are some pics of the run from Friday starting just after Georgetown
The famous Uncle Tom's Cabin, had to stop for a pop
finally on dirt
Stopped at Wentworth Springs for some lunch, met up with the RTF guys that were handing our spill kits, trail maps and other goodies. The rest of the trail was low range into Loon.
Shortly after this somewhere I was backing down a hill, passenger side drooped out and my front shaft separated. So that answers that, I need a longer slip.
this was one of the more interesting areas only because we had full size rigs. There is a video of us running down this section somewhere....
Not too long after this I felt what I thought was my front diff binding, in 2wd it was fine, in 4wd with the hubs unlocked it was still binding. Got out of truck, looked around and didn't see anything at a quick glance but I saw a fluid dripping up near the fuel pump, popped the hood to find the battery had somehow slid out of the stock battery tie-down and fell against the block

. My codawag rigged up a strap on that while I looked around more. I then found a couple bolts loose on the front Driveshaft flange at the T-case. I tightened those up thinking that was the binding I was feeling but no dice. Up ahead we had a 200+ yard granite hill climb, in 2 high I couldn't get up it so bmxbryant towed me up the hill and out the remaining 300+ yards of trail to loon.
Back at camp we met up with the other guys that trailered their rigs in and I was going to pull the diff cover when I realized I couldn't even turn the front driveshaft by hand, I knew I had a major failure and would not be able to continue on so we drank beer and enjoyed the company.
Next morning we decided to fish, my co-dawg caught a 15"+ 1lb+ Rainbow and we limped the truck the 2hrs+ home.
