'85 K10 Project "Yellow Truck"

Bought it off a member on here years ago. Already have the correct spring perch width. Figured might as well use what I got instead of getting more stuff. I got enough junk at the house already. Lol

New gears for the rear end showed up today. Guess I got some work to do next week. Gonna learn how to install some gears. Since this is not on the road I will have plenty of time to do the gear swaps. I always hate rushing a job I have never done before. With everything else I can do on vehicles a gear swap is the last on my list on want to learn how to do. All the other component rebuilds have gone smoothly so I'm hoping for the best.

Well post up if you need any help.

It's not complicated but it is time consuming.

Try to make setup bearings out of your old ones.

You only really need the carrier bearings as setup bearings.

Also easy to make a setup race cause your pinion shims should go under the lower pinion bearings race

Yea I had saw where that will help out tremendously.
And it's glad to have you all around in case I do run into a hiccup. Will keep everyone posted.
Thanks

Had fun getting the truck in the garage tonight.

Too damn tall to fit in my garage. Time to get creative

Worked out pretty good. Was able to put the truck in reverse and just let it creep in. No need to push!

You were in 4WD when doing this, right? :pimp:

:haha:

Ok small update. Been renovating the kitchen at home so my free time has gone out the door. But I have been able to find a few hours here and there to sneak out in the garage and work. I was able to get my steering box rebuilt (With no pieces leftover :D) Front axle stripped down and new gear pattern set, wasn't too bad just time consuming. Thanks @blazinzuk for the questions I had. Couldn't find a pipe to use to press on the new bearing on the pinion so progress stopped there tonight.

So decided to move on to the rear end. All stripped down and started cleaning inside housing. Found a lip on the bottom side of the housing that would be a rock catcher so that had to go.

Also managed to give the rear axle a quick spray bomb. Yes I know my garage is messy.

Got the carrier broke down and started to install the lunchbox locker for the 60.

Thats where I be as of tonight. Need to grab a pipe tomorrow to press on the pinion bearing and then I can get the front end back together.

Front end is put back together. Had to change out the tie rod ends. Back sitting on my skates waiting to go back outside. Rear axle is not finished but the truck is ready to go back in the driveway until then. Got some side work coming and need the garage space to fix other people's cars. Got the front tires installed on the beadlocks. Man does it look sexy. Lol

If the weather will coperate tommorow I hope to get the truck out and these installed.

Starting to work on this again. After a new kid and moving life has gotten in the way. But right now redoing the rear suspension. Going with the 56”-52” spring swap.

I got one of the spring eye bushings out and wasn’t sure if the inner sleeve came out as well. I’m changing over to poly bushings before in install them.

All the poly ones I have used, I removed that sleeve

Also, had to torch/drill/destroy most of my bushings to remove. So the sleeve wasn’t intact anyway

Made a little progress this weekend on the truck. Got the bushing sleeves out of the old leafs. Man that was not fun even with an air hammer. Got the new poly bushings installed and the leafs hung and even managed to slide the axle under neath it to see how it looks. Still have to torque everything but definitely diggin the new look.

Also went and got another component this morning.

This will fit nicely with this:

But that project will have to wait for a bit. Lol

You have to remove it definitely.
It's part of the old bushings and the poly insert will not fit otherwise.
