85 K5 Build (What to do this summer...)

Holy epic steering arm battle!!

We old farts here could have saved you about 7 1/2 hours of frustration and it would have come off in one piece...if you had asked, or searched. Just an FYI after the fact...

I've done four of them now, the longest one took an hour, the rest were 15 minutes or less.

I checked the forums and everyones came off way easier i watched the videos too. How did you do yours because I heated and beat on it with a sledge, used penetrate spray and an air chisel

Loosen the nuts a bit and take it for a drive :)

Hit down and side to side only. Penetrant helps. Keep hitting downward and side to side until the cone washers pop up...and be patient enough to wait for them to pop up. Once they do, use a sharp screwdriver and hammer to turn them out. No cutting required...

I did that for 3 hours but maybe I just wasn't doing it right

Yesterday I got everything put back together. I decided to get new u joints and after three trips to autozone getting the wrong parts the paint on the axles dried enough to install. Also I got the drag link on with new tie-rod ends
