'86 K30 Crew Cab Build

Another thing I used to do for small little holes is put a steel rivet in the hole and tack that up. Then just grind off the back of the rivet. Leaves a nice little bubble of steel. Grind it back down smooth and you never knew it was there.
That’s a good idea, next time i have the welder out, Im trying that. Thanks for that tip.

Your noise sounds very similar to mine I'm still tracking down. Is it a bit of a inconsistent ticking? Faint at idle and as the rpms go up it gets a little bit louder?

I'm still trying to track mine down...but I'm starting to wonder if mine is more of a lifter tick as it really seems to be coming from the driver side header. At first I thought it was the throw-out bearing, but still haven't found it. I've put a few miles on though and nothing seems to be affecting drivability. Let me know if you track your noise down

Steve, I’m almost certain the noise mine is making is the throw out bearing, my clutch master cylinder decided to start leaking today too. I’m going to replace both slave and master and see what happens. I put about 50 miles on mine yesterday/today and everything seems to be good to go. The weird thing about mine is this throw out bearing was in mine with the first install and it wasn’t making this noise. The noise comes and goes intermittently but i’m pretty sure it is in the clutch not the trans on mine. I fixed all my exhaust leaks too so I know that isn’t my problem this time around.

Have you checked the pressure plate bolts? Sound description reminds me of a loose torque converter bolt, so that'd be as close as you could come on yours.

I just put that on, blue loctite and torqued to spec, i sure hope that isn’t why. That would mean pulling the trans again.

I was sitting here thinking: locktite to crank, check
Locktite plate to flywheel, check

Lakewood scatter shield. Dang I wish I had one of those!

Yeah, I’ll think twice about driving mine around with that tunnel cover removed now. That guy is probably still picking clutch disc out of his legs, if he still has legs.

Yeah that’s stuff is no joke. Saw a flywheel come off a crank , hit the asphalt, then come back up through the windshield.

Guy got out shaking like a dog pooping a pine cone

That’s quite a frisbee, some of those drag racing fails are mind blowing for sure.

Fun Ford weekend, Bradenton Florida ( I know I know but I was once a mustang guy) I blew a right front tire when the car sat back down mid track at about 140mph. Rolled hard on the right and then over on the lid. I felt like that dudes clutch. Bright side is it made MMFF magazine! Down side is I would have won had I not wrecked.

I had our 1951 CAT D6 clutch explode on me. The Inspection plate between my feet got blown off as a chunk of pressure plate about 6" long came through the cover and deflected past my head. Closest I've ever came to soiling myself.

I think I remember reading some older thread on here where Larry said on his manual trucks (his K10 and Burb both with NV4500 swaps, and even on his 2001 K2500 with a ZF-6) that he had small little throw-out bearing noises from almost all of them. And IIRC, he even states that GM has made comments over the years that some noise from the throw-out/release bearing is to be expected....which seems a bit weird to me (kinda like stating that piston slap on early 5.3's was to be expected, haha), but GM has made weirder statements over the years. If you figure out a way to get the noise quieted down, let me know. I've tried to adjust my slave/fork on my external bell housing with no reduction of noise so far

My throw out squeaks... all the time now.. if it’s touching you will learn the noise.. it gets louder no my quieter..

So that’s why you run those neighbor hating Black Widow Mufflers, drowns out the noise from the throw out bearing:D

My 40 series drowns it out alright, haha

I have noticed with mine, if sitting at idle I can barely hear it, and it's the most noticeable in 2nd and 3rd as the rpms are a bit higher in those gears but I'm not going fast enough yet to have much road/wind noise. In 4th and 5th I can barely hear it (cause I'm searching to try and hear it), but the average person wouldn't be able to hear it when going that fast.

Haha I switched to the venom 300 but the trans itself is so damn loud I prob should just wear hearing protection until it gets rebuilt.. nice thing is these don’t self destruct like a level 7xxx 4l60 when they’re worn out.. they just make noise and if you keep fluid in them they go.. kinda like most manual transmissions..

I'm pretty sure this is a good reason to do like an 8.1 or Cummins or something. Just make the engine louder most noises magically cure themselves. Right? I mean that's how it works right???????
