87 K5 "Cashbag"

I'm working as much as I can to get this K5 ready for BB2020. I'd like to get it going so I can take it to Tuttle Creek, in Manhattan, Ks, for a test run. I'll take some pics of any connectors left over and see if you can help identify them. But it's going to be a few days because I'm working on the exhaust now.

Thanks for the input and help.

Wow....how time flies. Decided to try and get more of the wiring harness connected.

@Magikal Since you have the same harness, or close to it, can you give some input on this also?

Here are some connectors in question:

1. I'm guessing that the 3 pin connector is for the camshaft sensor in the distributor.

2. The 2 pin connector is not matching up to anything. Since it is in same area of camshaft sensor.....could it be for the Oil Pressure Sensor? I haven't found any 2 pin terminal Oil Pressure sensors so it makes it more questionable.

The next set of questionable connectors:

Three connectors.

1. The one wrapped in foil has the driver side Knock Sensor on the end.....and in the same run, also wrapped in foil, is this:

2. Four pin connector: Maybe the O2 sensor? This has been deleted out of the PCM

DSC_0009.JPG
3. Another 3 pin connector. Seems common for this harness.

DSC_0010.JPG

And last but not least......Another 4 pin connector like above....but this one is in the same run as the transmission sensors. Maybe the other O2 sensor? Again, deleted from PCM

If i remember correctly the last 4 pin connector is fuel pump, fuel level, and i forget what else that runs to the fuel tank. If laid out on the engine this connector should be by the firewall below the brake booster unless

Wire color helps with identifying connectors.

OK....that makes more sense. I wondered why they would leave the O2 sensor connectors when it was supposed to be deleted in the PCM.

Only question is.......the fuel pump, for the K5, only has 2 wires. Why would it be a 4 pin?

First and second pics
2 pin......Tan, Black........EDIT: Intake Air Temperature Sensor
3 pin......Yellow, Black/white, Pink......EDIT: Mass Air Flow Sensor

Fourth pic
Single terminal......possibly Purple.....heavier gauge.....EDIT: Starter solenoid

Fifth pic
4 pin......Tan, Purple, Black, Pink.......EDIT: O2 Sensor

Sixth pic
3 pin......Pink/black, Brown/white, Pink........EDIT: Cam Sensor

Seventh, Eighth and Ninth pics
4 pin......Tan, Purple/w, Black, Pink......EDIT: O2 Sensor

I'll do some research from the PCM pin outs and wiring schematics.

fourth pic looks a lot like the starter solenoid trigger wire. especially if its purple, thats also a high heat area, so explains the foil. but that would be on the passenger side, not driver.

I cant think of anything else that would have an eyelet that's not a ground.

I'm sure that is on the driver side. The passenger side has the other Knock sensor connector that's in the same run with the Crankshaft sensor.

Hopefully Magikal can get in on this. He had the same company do his harness for his 7.4 Vortec.

According to the fuse box lid, with the labels for the wiring from the Tuner, that heavy gauge purple wire is for the Starter Solenoid. And I believe they ran it to the driver side Knock Sensor. I am going to unwrap the harness and move the Starter Solenoid wire to the passenger side. That will take care of all the connectors.

I just hope that the two O2 sensors, IAT sensor and MAF sensor were deleted in the PCM. Those are the four connectors I won't be using.

I no longer can afford a premium account so all i see are thumbnails. PM me the pics and i can positively identify the connectors. My harness was modified to standalone with all emissions crap deleted. Bare bones to make it run without sacrificing power. But all the connectors kept are original so i should be able to match them.
If team208 did your harness as well, it should have came well labeled. Mine did.
Sorry for the delayed reply. I recently moved off grid and don't get to access technology much anymore. God bless.

I was able to identify the connectors......I had a brain fart and ZooMad75 and TreeFarm helped me figure it out. But I can use some help on hooking up the wiring at the new fuse box supplied by Team208. I'll get you some more pics later tonight.

Mine came with a mini fuse box, for the engine alone. Easy peasy to hook up. Only two power and one ground to be functional. A few other wires for bells and whistles.

@Mastiff

Time for some fun

I'm almost done with the exhaust and am getting ready to hook up the wiring. Here is what I have at the fuse box provided by Team208motorsports:

Once the exhaust is complete I'll start working on the wiring. I should have the exhaust done by Sunday, August 2nd, to the latest. I would like to try and get this motor started and running as soon as possible. If you have any input as to where each and every wire is connected that would help a lot. I know it's not that hard but trying to get this going as quick as I can puts a little stress on the brain and with working 60 hours a week it doesn't give me much time to work on it. BB20 is approaching pretty fast and I could really use the help from the brotherhood. What say yee?

I did mine a few years ago. Same harness setup from team208. Easy peasy. Don't over think it. Just follow the labels. Most are switch wires for relays and don't actually go to the components themselves.

I have a thread somewhere here where i over thought stuff and made a mountain out of a molehill....

A few questions:

1. What did you do for transmission line from the tranny to the radiator/cooler?

2. Fuel lines.....Did you make your own or use stock hoses?

3. Hydroboost......There are 3 lines from the hydroboost unit. Stock or make your own?

@Mastiff

The purple wire from the 208 harness is for the starter solenoid. What about the purple wire, for the solenoid, from the firewall? Is this one not used for anything because I now will use the one from the 208 harness? Just making sure so I don't fry anything.

1. Tranny lines. Made my own -an lines cause they are flexible and easy to repair. Be sure and get the correct fittings for the tranny to adapt to -an. One of the ones on the tranny is special. Rumor is that if you try and screw a generic fitting in, it can crack the case. They cost like $10 on amazon.

2. Fuel lines. I happened to have some steel braided fuel lines laying around so i used them.

3. Hydroboost lines. Stock line from pump to booster. Stock line out to gearbox. Stock return line out of booster but modified on the other end into a tee fitting. One side to pump, other came from reservoir, cooler, gearbox. I think, I'll look tomorrow and verify. Its been a few years and i haven't had to mess with it at all.

Edit: ok, i took a look today. The above info was wrong.

Pump to booster= stock line
Booster to gearbox=stock line
Gearbox to pump= stock line
Booster to cooler to reservoir to pump= all custom lines, i used rubber fuel line and hose clamps. This is all low pressure lines.

Reservoir from astro van. Also added the radiator hose extension on pump reservoir. Both of these mods with the intention of increasing fluid capacity in the system. I have zero issues.

All the front end is complete except for the AC. Engine still needs the final break-in but I have driven it a couple of miles.

I need to replace some of the floor section near the tailgate. Plus, make some metal boxes that will cover the coil overs.

I also need to finish the cage and get the OBA hooked up.
