Heater core fins is a possibility... wish I was easy to check.

if the hoses are the same temp its almost like the heater core is not transferring any heat

kinda like the radiator the hoses have a little difference in temp. A plugged heater core will defiantly have an affect on air flow i would think
There might be a minimal difference in temp with the hoses but not much. I will say you can feel air getting by the heater box in several places. And there is a ton of air blowing in the passenger side fresh air vent. Not sure why.

Been awhile since i have had the blower motor out but can you see the core with it out. Cant remember if you could on a non a/c box

Yeah you shouldn't have it blowing in the fresh air intake, that should be suction. If something was plugged in the core or after it then the air will try to go backwards in the system.
No help on your problems but how much of a bitch is it to do the heater core? I need to get after that on mine. Not only does it leak but none of my controls work rigjt
It’s not fun. A lot of the screws are a pain to get to and the box is not fun to fish in and out.
Stick one of those endoscopes in there. got some for cheap now that hook to your phone.
In other news, I ditched the pitbulls cause they were just way too big and I didn’t want to cut it that much. Sold those for what I paid and bought some 40” Toyo MTs for close to the same price. Looks like they’re going to fit much better. Hopefully will be able to get them on within the next week if I can get time and the weather isn’t too bad.

With your heat issue is the rubber band like connector between your heater box and dash vents gone? In my 78 it didn’t have one and there was a large gap (like 3/4”) between them and it was just Blowing all the air out under the dash
It’s not quite 3/4” but it’s definitely not flush against the firewall.
I can't wait to see those tires on there. Those are going to look really good.
