88 S10 Blazer Build (Body swap)

I need some people to go out and about with, so get this thing done :D. My brothers isnt finished cuz hes slow, and my buddy blew his 03 8.1L up so his 79 is on the back burner. Mine is just a driveshaft away, and I can see past that thing for the right type of time.

Yea I have that same problem. I just finished workin on a buddies 95 Cherokee. Put a welded rearend in it to help him out on the trails. But he is fixin to swap over to dana 44s front and rear, so out it comes again. I am having trouble finding some way to get a long slip on mine, cant find nothing that will seem to work of course. O well.

Ya... Where the hell you been hiding... Was gona stop by a few times that i was down that way... Just never know when your home. :haha:
I'm usually home long enough to sleep. I'd say on the weekends if the black crewcab dually is outside i'm home. It's the only thing running now. :doah:

Got the frame swaped out... Still need to make the front shackle hangers, and lower the motor and tranny some... Trying to make it where I dont have to have a body lift to clear the tranny...

I have a friend buidling one right now. It was a 2wd truck and right now it has 3/4 ton axles under it. I'll see if I can get pics here shortly.

Not sure why he decided to put the shackles up front but it's coming together pretty quick actually.

I always wonder why this isn't done more often. I read one time that shackles in front help push that axle over an obstacle when it flexes. I've been waiting years to see it done on here to verify the accuracy of this statement:whistle:.

I researched this when I built my SAS S10. Front shackles adds a bit of complexity as it almost requires a track bar to prevent a sloppy feel in the steering. The front shackles will allow more side to side movement of the axle during steering input.

Front shackles also cause a harsher ride feel vs rear shackles. When going over a bump the axle moves up and forward kinda pushing the tire into the bump. Rear shackles allow the tire to move up and back effectively soaking up the bump instead of pushing into it.

In going over an obstacle like a rock or stump front shackle design fights the vehicle weight and can bump it backwards making it harder to get over. Rear shackle lets the suspension do it's job moving the tire up/back while the vehicle moves forward. Now once the suspension has had time to react the vehicle is already on top of the obstacle. This all happens in fractions of a second. I ended up building mine with front hanger/rear shackle and it worked awesome off road, rode great on road, didn't need a front track bar or even a sway bar and pretty much handled like it was made that way from the factory.

Never been but I have a couple friends that take their cummins powered huge Chevys up there. Almost flopped the one over on its side. I wanna go once but think its alcohol free. Nothing wrong with that but I like to drink and watch people tear up there trucks :thumb:

My input was basically the same. REad about it years ago. I know jeeps are set up this way but figured there was a reason Chevy did it different and kept it that way for years.

Yea, its alcohol free. But honestly, Im kinda glad. I mean, I love alcohol and probably have a major problem with it, but it is just dangerous out there without booze, and I cant imagine the chaos that place would be if it was allowed. That being said, I have snuck booze in before and gotten completely hammered. You just have to be careful when you do it. And beer would be impossible to sneak in enough, but, I only drink whiskey so its easier. You guys should come, its a great time, and like you said, you will see someone tear something up. and, BOOOOOOOBS are everywhere.

Making more progress.... Had Kert modify a first gen fullsize Blazer engine crossmember to fit for me...Finally found a set of headers that fit perfect off ebay... Wiring is all done....

Had it started the other day for a sec... Now to just get the fuel lines finished up.... Finish welding shackle hangers up front... Waiting on a new clutch fork...

Quick little update...

Got the beast running... Had the exhaust put on it last Friday... Went with knockoff flowmasters... Got a matching set of 4.30 gears and posi unit for the front axle...

Put the updated spider injector in it.. Got the fans all mounted, and wired up... Been driving it a little bit... May need to add a trac bar on the front... Seems the font end pushes before it turns..

So far its all coming together and my hard work is paying off... Going to call about insurance one day this week...

Still have to find a decent set of tires for it before I start driving it much more...

Update.. Shes all legal and Ive been driving it lately.. Does good... Need to correct rear pinion angle.. Seems to flex pretty good for leaf springs... Everything clears with plenty of room..
