'89 R3500 Crew Cab 2wd to 4wd conversion & beyond

Started out with 2wd TBI350 with SM465 to current 4wd with 454, 700r4, NP241
Some dude that ended up behind us. Tried talking to him but he only chatted enough to be polite. As soon as we got to an area big enough he moved along ahead of us. All I got was he's from Windsor, it's an '02 2500, 8.1L, and he built the SAS and links himself.

I don't think 210 is out of line for temp.
If you had a 195 thermostat, it would run 210 all the time.

I am definitely jealous that I couldn't go on that run!!!!

210 is ok for newer engines but older stuff I like lower. If it was getting hot on the highway the radiator is definitely the issue. Cool trail ride. I need to find some places like that up here. I love mtn wheeling.

But just because you like it lower, it doesn't have to run lower. Correct?
I'm not saying that he shouldn't upgrade the cooling system, just saying that I wouldn't have turned the heater on at that temperature. But I have been around stuff for years that the engine fan doesn't even turn on until 210....
My bigblock has been running a 195 thermostat since I built it.
Plus I have seen that the higher coolant temp gets the oil temp up quicker to burn off the condensation faster.

I turned the heater on because it seemed to be continuing to increase. The needle had moved a touch past 210 at that point. I wasn't necessarily concerned but more curious of the affect it would have.

Are you still on the fan clutch scott?
I have Windstar fans.

I have an aftermarket radiator I bought shortly after purchasing the truck. The radiator core is actually a little smaller than the Windstar fans. In hindsight I bought a radiator that is too small, especially for the 454.

Carry on, I remember talk of some volvo fans, but not the windstar ones...

Thought it looked like it should be an 8.1 truck...other than those mall crawler rims...that thing is bitchin!

I have a pair of electric Volvo fans I plan to use on the bigger radiator. They are similar to the Taurus fans some use.

Put a four core big block radiator in it run the Windstar fans and call it good. Mine runs 185 195-200 all day long. If you're driving down the freeway and it's getting hot it's because your radiator is too small.
