91 K5 -Procrastination Build - bikini top!

It does look tall, but it might be the small fender openings causing an optical illusion. How much lift are your 52's?

WD-40 is your friend, I spray it thick on my o-rings & inside the rim where the -ring seats. I never got mine to seal until I did.

On a side note, I cut my runflats down with a Plasma cutter.

The 52's are 2.5" lift but I pulled the overload so theoretically the total lift should be about 6" (+1" body). Hopefully, it's an illusion. I plan on taking some rocker height measurements for comparison once I get all the tires on. Of course, the trans & Doubler aren't in yet so it may settle down some more afterwards.

You know, I was inclined to put something on the o-rings but I was afraid of them squishing out when clamped.

Show off. :D

get more pics if you can, i wanna see how ~7" lift and 42's looks since mine wont be at that stage for a while :)

I doubt that 200 lbs worth of doubler will squat it much. Especially since it is in the center of the rig. I am running stock 56" springs & 1" BL with 42's. Yours looks a bit taller than mine. I am still thinking the small fender wells are playing a trick on our eyes. If you want to check I have 5.5" from the bottom of my front fender to the top of my tire.

I learned the wd-40 trick from a guy on Tennessee Offroad. I had troubles getting mine to seal the first time I mounted them. He told me to wet the gaskets down & the tire bead down with the WD-40. He said it will also ease the pressure on the rim bolts when you are seating the beads.

Not trying to show off just wanted to let peeps know there is an easier way than the sawzall. :D

I tell ya I wish I could have used a plasma cutter, after 5 runflats I wasn't sure if I had any fillings left in my teeth. :doah:

No, last weekend was a bust. I plan on working on it this weekend, I'll finish up the tires, trim the fenders a little and I need to get rolling on finishing the motor.

Didn't get a lot done, trimmed the fender fangs and 1/4 skirts. I also messed around with my leaking rims and ended up with 5 of 8 studs galling on one wheel. Fortunately, I have 5 wheels so the bad one is now my spare.

Net weekend I'll be working on the steering (welding on an ORD plate, bolting on box and drag link). I'm so tired of moving this junk around by hand. :doah:

Looks better all the time.:wink1:

That's how I determined which was going to be the spare on mine too.:doah:

dude john that looks awesome. i cant fukkin wait to get back to the states and get into my blazer! you motivate me old man haha

so thats what mine is gona looks like (cept with 42" iroks on 12b h1's) me like! the stance with the drw 60 and 70hd looks badass! i cant wait

Fyi the rear will be wider, I haven't put the spacers on yet. They should be almost even with the front when everythings on. :wink1:

you should just do the disc conversion with the 14b hubs;) thats what im gona do, it'll make the rear slightly wider (.5" total) than the drw 60

in the same boat and combo also.
i know know how much lift and so forth i want been up in the air.
i just got some rims and 42 iroks i wanted the tsl but everyone talked me out of them , ( regret on my part)
Just keep us updated nice project and awsome truck.
how much narrower is the rear and would a van rear 14 bolt even it out closer.i hear they are the widest

hes using a d70hd which is much wider than a van 14b. d70hd, which are dually, have a WMS of about 73", while a van width 14b has a WMS of ~69-70". a DRW 60 has a WMS of 77" so to match that youd need huge spacers on the rear of a 14b or a d70hd with spacers or disc conversion with 14b srw hubs, which makes the d70hd wms 77.5"

Dammit! I don't know why I didn't open this thread a long time ago. You're building pretty much the same lines I am.

I've got a '74 Jimmy frame for a base. I'm still trying to find a matching DRW D60 and 70HD with at least 4.56 gears. I already have a 3.73 front, so if I score a D70 rear for cheap enough, I may regear both axles later and go with a lower ratio than 4.56.
I'm just using plain aftermarket lift springs, 6" Skyjacker fronts on 1" zero-rates and 4" Skyjacker rears on 2" ORD flips with 1" zero-rates also.
A 1" ORD body lift is also going on, too. Total 8" lift and I'm planning the 42" Swampers as the tallest tires for this setup. Rims are H1's, much like yours but the 12 bolt version instead.
Get this: I scored a set of H1's with 37" MT's this weekend in Oklahoma on the road trip for $300. Bought them mainly for the rims. Tires will be slapped onto different rims later.

I've already got the 454 just sitting on the chassis right now with a 465/205 behind it. Don't plan on manual tranny so its just sitting there now. I want an automatic, so still looking for that or someone to swap with.

Body is gonna be nothing special, just a regular cab '80 C20 and the flat bed will be either metal or aluminum, depending on the total weight of each.

I could go on and on but will stop here as you get a general idea of what I've got planned. It's just almost uncanny seeing your buildup here now.

My 70HD is 69" wide so it's equivalent to a van width 14 bolt. James is right with his measurements and suggestions about the 70HD, 14 bolt bearing hubs, etc.. The trick with my axle is I had it narrowed from 74" down to 69" years ago with the intent use it in place of a van width 14 bolt (to achieve deeper gears) in a typical SRW set up. Well, years go by and ideas change so now I'm running a DRW front and using spacers on the rear to push it back out to where I started. :doah:

My reason for not using 14 bolt bearing hubs or an unmod'd wide housing is neither would work with my custom rear disc brake set up (front D60 parts) so I'm making do with what I've got.

Come awn Wes, get with it! I'm slow as hell so you've got plenty of time to catch up. :D
