97 sas'sy Sierra/ 80 Cheep 10: tales of a phat block

Just edited the pictures on page 1 of the thread, I had moved some pictures around and noticed just Red X's were appearing. But its all good meow.

Errybody gotta love TWINS:woot:

They still look cool though. Pretty authentic. I've had a few RC crawlers and they are a blast. I've seen a few on the internet that look exactly like '73-'87 Chevys too. Way cool.

Update, grizzly is in. Put a drain plug in the rear cover and popped her on as well.

I lucked out and borrowed that yukon bearing puller for the carrier which helped me out a ton. Took a bit of trial and error, but I got the pattern fairly close and about .005" back lash.

No pic of the cover mounted, I did however have to reseal it twice. First I used some clean flow silicone which didnt work for whatever reason. Round 2 I used some black RTV and she was leak free.

Old carrier/lockright:

The teeth on the lockright were notched real good and the spring/pin pocket area were pretty beat up.

Also I took in a load of scrap, 4 ten bolts and some other junk(732 kg worth) in the sierra. Cali lean FTW!! :haha:

The Lock rights have 2 year warentees on them. I've had to warentee claim two different ones. Send it back and they send you a new one. If you bought them through a large site like Summit you can send it back to them and not Richmond Gear and get a new one faster while Summit handles the warentee claim with Richmond.

Since getting the new ones I haven't had problems with them since :dunno:

hmmm maybe Ill have to look into that, I blew up 2 this year so far

But they are only warranted with 32" tires and under though? I remember readin that somewhere.

I don't recall anything about tire size or hp or anything else. I run 35"s and just sent mine in and got a new one for free. (It took like a month to get the new one, so I hope you kept the spiders)

If you still have instructions, follow what they say to send it in.

will do.

but I have since replaced both, went to a eaton posi in my car.

it appears my front cover showed up today, might have to make a trip home sunday n fire it on :thumb:

On a side note, just got my red seal for machining :woot:

Man that would be a great thing to have, but I'm still trying to picture it in action. It sure would be nice to be able to take the bearings off without destroying them if you need to add or remove some shims. Then you wouldn't have to take it to the machine shop to have them pressed on and off two or three times just to set up one r&p. Sweet!!! :woot:

Got my front cover on, its 3/8" bolting ring and 1/4" everywhere else. I put a drain plug in as well. Got it from ztechfab off ebay, fit okay. I had to grind 5 holes to get them to line up, 2 needed to be ground almost half a hole.

While I was at it, popped the tie rod off and welded a small C channel bar on. Seemed to stiffen it right up. Hopefully I dont bend this any more than it already is  :haha:

Got some 1.5" Sun Pro's, put em in the dash in place of the stockers. Took some persuasion, but they fit quite well. Also the rims needed a polish, so I washed her up while I was at it hence the poser pic :pimp:

I like the gauges. Is it just me or is your speedometer needle bent to the right a little? Is that how you can correct for larger tires without swapping out the speedo gears? :haha:

Its a long story, I was waiting for someone to point that out  :haha:.
I bumped the old needle(was plastic) broke the needle part, than when I went to pull the rest of it off it all crumbled into pieces. Couldnt get that lil metal sleeve of the speedo drive. So I took a old cluster apart I had, which happened to be siezed and decided to break as well :doah:. So I drilled it out and it just so happened to grab and bend the new needle :doah: :haha:. So I straightened it till I get a chance to put another one on. Doing 100 km now, it reads 140 km :haha::haha:

Try telling that to the officer when you get pulled over for speeding! :haha::haha: That's too funny.

Same thing happened to me with the little plastic needle that shows what gear the trans is in on the dash. That one's not as important as the speedo needle though.
