All things Drag Racing.

Ahhh, Stupid Shops.
I do miss them though & surprised they stayed in business as long as they did.
We had one close to our shop and had a kid that worked there show up late Friday night.
He asked if I'd be interested in a Holley carb.
Asked him what model/size.
He says, come look.
Went outside and he had a pick up load of new carbs in the back!
He said $50 bucks each and if he didn't have what we needed, he could get it.
Politely told him I wasn't interested and he should leave.
Called the Dallas PD and they contacted Stupid Shops and they refused to press charges???

They were only good if you knew what you needed when you walked in.

We have a store called Performance Products locally. People who race and know thier stuff.

We have basically one speed shop here, I give them a 6 out of 10. Sometimes they have exactly what you need at a good price...and sometimes it feels like a trip to Autozone. If it's something really generic and I want it today I'll go there. otherwise it's Summit, or Heath.

Friend of mine's brother opened a shop years ago in the next town over. My buddy and I visited as it was the first new aftermarket automotive place in our area in years (probably over a decade). Guy knew nothing and had nothing for us but could order everything...at 120% the cost of everywhere else.

I just ordered from Summit.

Used to be a Super Shops on west Colfax here in Denver. Dad and I went in one time because he needed some oddball lugnuts to put the N90 Monte SS wheels on a ‘78 Malibu. They needed to order them so my Dad paid for them in advance. Weeks later when they showed up we went back and after the guy put the box on the counter he said “uh we have a little problem”. It turned out the price per lugnut was higher now than it was when he ordered it and they wanted more money. Dad whipped out his receipt marked paid and said it looks like YOU have a problem, not me. We proceeded to start going to the door. The kid was stammering about getting his manager. Nope. Just walked out. Never stepped foot in that place again.

That reminds me of these days where with the volatile material costs, especially last year, and long lead times, some of my suppliers and distributors, some large aftermarket companies, were raising prices and/or adding a surcharge on orders even if you ordered them over a year before and they hadn't delivered yet!

Now I didn't do that to my customers, it does not seem like the right thing to do. Also, although it doesn't help business losing money on a sale, it makes it worse if you lose customers and future sales from my perspective.

got this off of YouTube. The finals at the 4-Wide Nationals at Las Vegas. I only went on Friday. The stands look kind of empty for NHRA final rounds. I remember going to NHRA and NASCAR races back in the 70's and 80's where the stands would be packed.
