small updates.

i want to have it done by the 25th..being that I am on vacation till the 16th though makes it seem like it wont happen. still need to tube the top and make a final decision on the rear links..oh an get a rear axel.. ya lots to do yet. oh and the whole putting it back together part..

back on track.. lets just move that date to april 25th.. lol

anyways..

got the big block, tranny and doubler in this weekend, spent a few hours playing with my ruller:crazy: ..uh and figured out my measurements for the 3 link so I can order my links now..and tonights all nighter consist of fabbing a cockpit style dash thingy...

lets see what morning brings as usual..also promissed to have a drivetrain pulled from a wrangler before monday morning..um crap its going to be a long night:doah: :D

Hey Shawn, had a blast helpin' ya put the doubler under the buggy. I know I said the buggy is almost done but that was before you mentioned the stuff you need to change. I was busy droolin' over the watertight welded "bathtub" :haha: and the 42" Iroks! hope I didn't leave any puddles j/k

It's all looking good though, just takes time and more time :D Need any help, just holler at me, I'll see if I can come by.

here is the pics, i might put some glazing putty on the dash to smooth it out, but im happy with it as it is, i can say it is real nice seeing something go from in my head to metal.

anyways..back to the tech, im thinking about just using johny joints all around on the on the rear lower links... thoughts??

talk to matt about johnny joints. We talked about them when we started planning my links and we have decided on heims for the links because you can get bigger stronger bolts to fit them. My lowers will be 7/8"x3/4" heims & my uppers will be 3/4x3/4 heims.

If you are DD'ing it, look at some poly type of isolater (jonny joints, spring bushings, whatever). If you are not (and I assume you are not dd'ing it) go hiems. Cheaper and stronger. You can get a 7/8-3/4 that nets some serious strength. Both in the through bolt diameter and the size of the body (how big the bearing surface makes them stronger and last longer). Also lets be realistic. You have huge tires, and a small amount of link separation. That puts an ungodly amount of stress on the joint/link. The 9/16 or 5/8 bolt will cry wolf at some point and that will probably drive your axle into your d-shaft or t-case. It just leaves a lot depending on such a small bolt. Yes the poly absorbs some of the load, but with the tire size and the weight (marv built in a lot of redundant supports with that buggy) I would not want to chance it.

Also carry one spare link if you can. I have seen many fail and usually a spare would save the day.

BTW you can get the 7/8-3/4 for about $5 more than the 3/4-3/4 heims. I think poison spider has a good price.

Finally made up my mind and ordered the material,

2 lower link material

(2) 2 inch tapped and machined aluminum links 20.00 a foot 2 hours lbr =330.
(4) 1.25 chromo qa1 rod ends=239.00
(4) jam nuts=17.16
(8) misalignment spacers =71.92

upper link
(1) 7/8 hiem 28.00
(1) bushing sleeved with dom at chassis end 15.00
(2) misalignment spacers =16.00
(1) jam nut 2.00
(1) tube adapter 11.00
link material..not purchased yet, 1.5 od 250 wall dom is my thought

panahrd
(2) 7/8 hiem = 56.00
(2) 2 jam nuts = 4.00
(2) tube adapter =22.00
panhard material? thinking 1.5 inch aluminum for some bling

so.. 333.00ish in lower link material and labor
and 500 ish in parts from balistic fab

thats about 850.00 before the material for tha panhard and upper link

my girlfriends face when I figured this all out...priceless:D

1.5" .250 wall DOM should be fine for upper links. I would just use the 1.5" .250 wall for a panhard too then take it and have it chromed if you want the bling. :D

 hmm, any thoughts on a traction bar set up for the front axle..

im using yj leafs with a big block sitting on em for the front suspension,

wondering about axle wrap

got the lower links back from being built and machined from camble enterprises...I stopped by my dads afterwords and it fell over into his knee..he has a nice bruise and I got a nice laugh BEEF!!!
