buggy build thread.. F-ING TRANSMISSIONS

5K for a complete 400HP EFI engine isnt by any means a lavish amount of money

Yep, but that's all it is, is a motor. No supporting fuel system, wiring harness, etc. Buy a junkyard 5.3 for $1k (I can get an '07 Flex Fuel motor with 5,000 miles for 60% of that), then spend $4k on it in upgrades, I'd be willing to bet you'll end up significantly north of 400 HP, considering 5.3's are 285-295 from the factory, and severely limited by the OE computer programming.

Sure, the LS2 is 94 pounds IIRC lighter because of the aluminum block, but come on.

Youre preaching to the choir....5.3s or 6.0s are not my cup of tea.

I was just stating its his build and to each his own.

It comes complete with everything except the wiring harness and ECM which cost $1K apparently.

And remember what happens when you throw tech into someone's build thread once they've made their choice ;)

Yeah, but I know Shawn, so I can bust his chops all I want :D
One thing I can say is that if he DID buy that motor, he probably wouldn't change his mind... again... :doah: :p:

I don't think Shawn sticks with the first thing he gets ever. Always switching to something bigger or better or different.

in my quest to forever change my mind ive decided to just drop the 4.8 in, I have alot coming up and i just dont have the time to do it all. Dropping the motor in means I can get the buggy back together and get wheeling. So im taking a gamble that the atlas 4 speed will get here on time or soon and I can wheel this thing. If the t-case takes longer than they say them im hosed, it was the wrong choice and wont make the wheeling trip.

In my mind I like the idea of using this motor while building up a nice 6.0 under no stress or timeline. I have a vacation, family coming to town, a trip, sema and projects going on and taking my time means I dont have to cut any corners on building a 6.0. Then later swap engines and use the ready to run 4.8 in a future project, maybe the 86 blazer or a cool 1st gen blazer cruiser. Im kind of concerned with the 07 getting put in 4low every weekend and the longer the buggy is down the more it gets beet on:doah: I think it will be interesting "or depressing" to feel the difference between the carbed big block, to a FI4.8 to a built 6.0

any input or suggestions for a stall for the torque converter?

I;m no expert in stall speeds but i have a stocker in my th400 and like it. I've seen a tall stall in a rig and caused it all sorts of hell wheeling. Myself I'd keep it low.

ive got some reading to do but I was thinking around stock. Ill read up and see what I come up with, hell what the worst that happens?..I change my mind again:doah:

have you hugged your atlas 4 speed today?

I'm prolly out of the loop, but how are you getting into SEMA?

helping a little on an s10 for a local shop, full bolt on back and front suspension and custom bed, paint and major metal work. fits 24's in the rear and 22's up front. Very neat truck indeed. pics after sema

Not familiar with the shift pattern for an atlas. The paired sticks would be front and rear engagement, engaged/neu, and the third for ranges?

one the with the fancy knob controls the planetary, the other does the front and rear
