buggy build thread.. F-ING TRANSMISSIONS

Now that you have done all that work to the ammo box , ya know that they come is that size :D

Ya they have that tall one but it's not 31 inches and the same size as my tray .. and not at 3am lol

One funny thing about ammo cans is they are getting pretty hard to find here. I started picking some up around last june and the places that had them in bulk the years prior were out of them. Blame it on the war or Obama but it sucks! Prices also sucked!

parts list for the fuel system

part/ part number/source/cost

MSD fuel pump part # 2225, from local speed shop......................(1) @ $115.00

2001 corvette fuel filter/regulator from napa...............................(1) @ 43.00

3/8" fuel line repair kit from napa, part # 730-4931......................(1) @ 12.19

5/16" fuel injection return fitting, summit racing #640860..............(1) @ 15.00-ish

3/8" fuel injection pressure fitting, summit racing # 640-850......... (4) @ 15.00 ish

AN # 6 push lock hose fitting, summit........................................(4) @ 5.50-ish

AN #6 90 degree push lock fitting, summit................................. (2) @ 17.00 ish

3/8" push lock hose from local speed shop.................................(12') @ 5.50 per foot

so for around 375.00.. for the complete set up so its easy to get parts far, the fuel pump I went with because I could afford 2 of them for for less than one aeromotive pump..I hope this does not burn me later! Plenty of cost could have been avoided or made much more expensive, I kind of went middle of the road.

Yeah, the 6.0 is the way to go... stock lq4 will make more power than a 5.7 ls1.
don't waste your time with block huggers or shorty headers, get some long tube headers they make good power.

i was looking at doing L92 heads on my LQ9 build, but i didn't want to give up too much low end torque, if i was building an all out race truck just for WOT in the dunes, i would have gone for it, but i'm building my truck dual purpose for racing and for crawling..
Look at the test they did in the hot rod magazine, they picked up a buttload of HP but sacrificed a bit of low end, and shifted the whole powerband higher in the rpms. i'd be loving it in the dunes, but not so much at 900 rpms trying to crawl the thing.

i'm pretty damn happy with my LQ9 6.0L, got a custom grind cam a little bigger than the TR224 i recomended.. it should be good for about 450hp.
Got me a 2nd place trophy at the mud drags the other weekend, the only truck that beat me was this green longbed that had a 720hp zz572r.
we were only racing 125' but i think i put up a pretty good fight for being way underpowered...

Did you shift at all? You had a great launch and move on him by what seems a good truck and half. It was at the top end that he got you back.

What about wood for the caps in your ammo can set up? You could make a wooden block for each end maybe with round holes cut out to secure the shafts. I imagine it would be soft enough to not damage them. Seems like any kind of foam would wear out and need to be replaced fairly quickly.

thats a damn decent idea:waytogo:

Picked up my tq converter 1400 stall, later on ill upgrade it when I swap in the 6.0 to a higher stall since I plan to run a cam in it then.

and picked up my crank spacer to run a t-350 trans behind the ls motor for 42.000ish

also got a really cool plaque for the dash lol

I dig the plaque! :waytogo:

Where did you get it?

I went to a big rig junk yard today to look for some parts or ideas and saw it in a fire truck, 2.00 and it was mine:D

"apparatus" btw is just another name for a fire truck or piece of equipment

Do you sleep? Or did you just get done "doing work".:D

I need a beer.:o

I didn't do any work thursday or friday so I was out running around, also was trying to waste some time while waiting on a craigslist seller.

just thought of a name for the buggy
B.L.A.T.

built like a tank

Still Working away slowly

Got a new toy today for the buggy, I still need to get fitted for helmets but this will make drives through the dessert awesome with helmets and fresh air pumps and being able to freely talk!

still need to put the front axle together, mount the battery. 02 sensors and install the atlas back in it. After that its mainly just fluids, drivelines and linkages.:wink1:

It runnnnnnnnnnnnnns:D

For not having any o2 sensors, no passenger side exhaust, and the number 3 coil being bad it runs really smooth:D

Getting closserrrrr

Why are you coils bad? I thought those things were indestructible, but then again you do own it so I could see it breaking. :haha:

Im not sure, but its arcing out and shocked me like a mothertrucker! Tomorrow I am picking up a couple so I have a spare.

2 months later and all I get finished is putting a diff cover back on.:o

holy hell this thing should now be called project paper weight

So I have been working away at this thing, and actually drove it with the 4.8 yesterday for the 1st time.

Well was not that impressed so today I went and picked me a up a 6.0, pulled it from a wrecked 07 with 34k..
:D

Lots has been finished up in the last few weeks, and untill I pulled the 4.8 out tonight all that was left was the front driveline, hook up the hydro assist and the seats and seat belts..:doah: But.. whatever. The 6.0 is what I really wanted in the 1st place.

other things,

new driveline, 1350, had them make it out of 250 wall dom, I told them I want to be able to drop the whole buggy on it:laugh:

Made a remote trans fan, used some simple flat strap to make some brackets. The fan is a simple hayden 10 inch unit from checker auto "49.95" and the cooler is a stacked 3/8 line unit that runs about 50.00 or so.
