Do to some crazy family and work stuff i actually ended up with a free night. I took the opportunity to install that aluminum radiator i purchased back in like october.

So it has a slightly larger core and slightly larger tanks However, it was 3/4" sorter than the old radiator. The old one had a lot of wasted space on the top and bottom.

What i ended up doing was i cut some 3/4" square tube that i had laying around and i attached the rubber grommets to it and lifted the radiator the 3/4". When i tightened it down it was holding it really tight so im pretty sure this will work just fine. I opted to lift it vs adding to the brackets on top because it seemed to put the maximum amount of the radiator in the opening.

Fingers crossed this is it and i can call this thing done

I do think i need a new fan shroud, the one i have has some large gaps...

So just been toying with this idea..... I wonder what this truck would be worth if I were to sell it? Nothing wrong with it but it literally just hangs out taking up shop space ... hmmmmm

Build the crap out of Plan B, keep Nightmare as it is Then when you’re done playing with Plan B or at least got it to the point where you could wheel everything in anything you ever thought one could do. Then put your work into nightmare and build it as a daily driver/cruiser/show car/cruise night vehicle. Then you will have your wheeler, ultimate wheeler and another vehicle that you can just drive on the street and go cruising in.

You do need a bigger shop though .

Agree, as much as I dislike them, you could LS or 8.1L swap it at that time and upgrade it to reliable daily driver status and give it a modern powertrain. It is nice to have a newer DD that you can just hop in and go but you will regret it if you sell it.

I cant tow a gooseneck with this or my suburban. And why would I stick an 8.1 in it? My entire drivetrain probably has 8 to 10k miles on it and its fuel injected lol this thing is super reliable just not practical. Also new cars have all kinds of insane comfort features we just dont get with these older trucks. I am actually seriously looking at selling my Volvo and suburban and just getting a duramax. Unloading this truck would just be more money towards that and freeing up space in my tiny shop ;)
I'm just thinking outloud. I wouldn't just unload this on a whim

There will always be new Duramax trucks (at least for the foreseeable future), but you can't just go to the dealer and buy a nice 78 Jimmy.

I really enjoy having a car/truck I can jump in and go for a cruise to home depot, lay rubber to breakfast, drive to work on Friday's etc. and based on your fleet I see that as your Jimmy. Take that away and you'll regret it, I've experienced it several times over. Why are you stuck on a gooseneck?

I can get a really large camper, or a toy hauler that i can camp out of and tow a truck in. also soon i will have a scout and blazer to pull down to moab. i think a gooseneck is a good option when pulling multiple vehicles places.
I don't really think that i'll unload this truck it was just an idea. it would be kinda cool to unload a few vehicles and get into something brand new with a tiny or zero payment. ( i do kinda laugh a little.... i wouldn't even consider selling my ugly rusty truck, i think having more fun beating on it made it my favorite even over my nice truck)

I forgot you were fuel injected already and I didn't remember you had a sub. I see your point then. I have too many trucks but only one has a payment and it's like 1/8th of what a newer truck payment would be. I have a work beater, my blazer, my farm truck, and my diesel for towing. But I also have a ton of room for them and the ability to fix all of them. Your thinking does make sense though living in the city and wanting to downsize multiple vehicles into one that can do it all.

I LOVE my Dmax. It comes in handy for so many things. I know I'm going to be in the minority here, but yeah, do what ya gotta do to get yourself a REAL tow vehicle. If that includes selling nighmare, go for it. That said, there is a good chance it's not worth what you'd feel you need to get out of it, so you'll end up keeping it anyway, but selling it doesn't seem like a horrible option since you still have plan B.

I see trucks built like mine outside of utah going for around 20k, id probably entertain 15K or possibly send it to cali and have a friend sell if for more... i think i'll first look at just unloading the suburban and volvo

one question i have is will you guys disown me if i get a powerstroke ?? I wont lie i test drove one i just cant get out of my mind...

They all have their perks and problems.

You'll deal with the same emissions garbage regardless of brand. What you choose to buy don't bother me at least. I personally wouldn't buy any of them due to the emissions crap. If I was to go that way it would be pre-emission or look for a cream puff 8.1 crew cab Allison truck. The latter is becoming more of a unicorn than anything.
