I drive mine on straight headers to the exhaust shop, but since your motor is new, id tow it there and back, then break in the motor.
 
You don't need exhaust to break in an engine.

I did exactly that, then the bitchy neighbor came over and told me " I didn't spend 1/2 a million dollars for my house to hear this crap" I told her "yes you did apparently, Im breaking in the motor and it will be this loud for 25 minutes and Im not shuting it off, period, go move to the country" She called the cops...They thought the new motor was badass and told her to pick her battles...
 
though I used my headers and about 1' of pipe pointed down for initial cam break in, if you can wait or get the exhaust done yourself, it is better to have some piping while initial break in. Simply to keep things as quiet as possible, so you can listen to the engine.
 
No neighbors for a long ways where i will be breaking it in so I guess I could do that, it would be nice to have an exhaust one while breaking it in, I think maybe ill stop at an exhaust shop and see what they can do for me just looking at it, I could order the tail pipes, would just need the front pipes bent up and take account for the offset of the mufflers.

Got a list started:
-2.5" Pre Fabbed Exhaust system W/O mufflers: $150 estimate
-2.5" Pypes Performance Violators: $123 for both

Fluid: (Do I need 5 qts of break in oil or just add 1 to 4 normal?)
-Royal Purple Break In oil 6 qts : $47 (I was told I need an extra quart for break in...??)
-Royal Purple 15/40 2 Gal: $65.36 (I want No $hit for running Royal Purple, So dont gimme any lol)
-2 Wix Oil Filters- $7
-Antifreeze- $20

Rad? Im still lookin around, my core measures 20"tall, 28"long, 1.5"thick. I really wanna find a nice 4 core but no way im droppin crazy $$$ on one. I found a nice Griffin one with 2.25" core for like $180 but it doesnt say anything about the built in tranny cooler or not.....

-Intake gaskets: $15
-Header gaskets:$30
-Valve cover Gaskets:$30
-ACDelco Spark Plugs: $20
-180* Thermostat: $15
-Summit Stainless Grade 8 header and intake bolt kits: $8
-VHT Anodized Engine Paint (Dark Purple): $8
-Silver Header Paint: $8
-Motor Mounts: Can I get the same ones? Or will they be different? $60 for poly ones.

Total Comes to $607. W/O Radiator :doah:

And of course cant forget the rebuilt 408 Small Block
-Roller Rockers
-Summit 1103 Cam
-Gaskets, bearings, machined, crank, flexplate, oil pump, yadayadayada.

Engine Total $1000

TOTAL ENGINE BUILD: $1607 (as of now lol)





You guys have anything else you don’t see???
I have the headers, intake, carb, distributor, pullys and everything.

i like Deep Purple, but why Royal Purple? change ALL your fluids now too......yes, the pumpkins too. header paint? spend the coin and have them coated if they're good headers (i forgot what you got).

don't get bent out of shape over the engine or being nickel and dimed to death, it happens with a build. Also, it sounds like ur getting a great motor built for you, for a grand, so be cool and let it happen, it's a great price.

only need 5 quarts, too much and you end up leaking from somewhere. Go over to Oriellys or Autozone and grab some quarts of VR1 Valvoline oil. It has zddp and will work fine for your break in, as well as regular oil changes. It's like 5 bucks a pop.

Never heard of a grade 8 stainless, but I haven't heard everything. Interesting..

Are you still driving the truck now? Right now would be a good time to start flushing the RAD. There are products you can add to water and flush it out. Do it a bunch of times and just use your current radiator. Be happy with it till you find something better, you'll be fine until you start running AC during the summer or pulling trailers up long grades.

DUDE!!!! you guys I just got the best deal EVER!!!!!

So I was bored went down to a local exhaust shop and asked if they could fab me up a 2.5" system and how much it would cost if I installed it (they wanted $400), the guy goes no man cant do that, if you install it bad you will be back a hundred times asking us to fix it. The other guy came in and the guy says what do you think about this, I say no. The guy goes you got that K5 out their??? I said yup, he goes Ill be right back.
Walks in with a 2.5 inch dual system mandral bent for a K5 says a guy brought in an S10 blazer this morning, had this system and wanted us to put it on, he told him nope this is for a full size, but ill take $100 off a system for your truck for these.

Long story short, I said how much, he goes $80 cash. BOOM out the door.

Im stoked as H3LL!!!!!

I did a little mock up underneath and it looks like it will fit perfect!!! just need a 45* up front to the headers after I get it all hung, they said they would bend me 2 once I get the measurments.

nice score dude. I'm doing a crappy single on the burb for now. I'm currently trying to buy a second house at the momment. dont know when i'll be able to do my duals.

90 k5 with 350, 33x12.5 bfgs, Idk the lift the guy didnt answer. Says 350k on the odometer haha. $1200, Makes my truck look so small haha. It had alot of rust, but interior looked fantastic.

Rotated the tires as well, front pass bearing is bad, have to fix that. Gonna paint up the new top tomorrow and get that on and get the van exhaust welded up and get that out. What a productive DAY!! lol

And thats not rust at the back of the "bed", its dirt, floor looks good, hinges looked great, ill have to shorten the pass limit strap, its got slack when its down all the way. Closes good too, im stoked!!!

How did you get the window down. I cant see the pics from work:confused: But the new top is gonna make it look way better:D The house I was trying to buy was just for the garage:whistle: I really didnt care much about the house. H3ll yah buddy!!! I did the thing you told me with jumping the 12v to the terminals, I found the 12v terminal was snapped off!!! so i cut the SOB and touched it to the terminals and boom, went down, and went up.

Im so excited about this exhaust system man, its gonna be narly, i think ill get the H-pipe system as well, its only like $40 off summit.
