Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

good job... :waytogo:

Thank you sir. I know you know just as well and probably expect it, but each of those tubes took me an hour a piece.

Still I find that its great that saturday morning the blazer had the top on and zero tube in it :D

Tomorrow I build the arrowhead middle bar piece thing, and finish up with mockup of the rear cage.

my A-pillar's in the K5 took 6 hr's each... :doah: :haha:

good fishmouths... how thick is that side sheetmetal gonna be?

Im kind of scared of what to do for my a pillar hoop things. They are gonna need alot of offsets in multiple planes to keep them away from my head....

That is part of the reason my seats are mounted so low. Great for the desert. But not seeing over the hood while crawling sucks.

Im tall too so it will be a challenge. I have already burned through 5 sticks of tube out the 8 I ordered. I will need to order some more I think lol.

list of cool things.....

Red sharpie.... check!

thanks duderman!

So um you gonna take it all apart to fully weld every tube right? :D

Just making sure you know it's best to fully weld every single joint so those 2 into one your gonna have to give it a quick nip with the grinder so it clears the weld.

It looks killer Adam can't wait to see your arrowhead gussets

I was thinkin that was every time a laid 2 tubes in a corner.... Idk, it can't be that big a difference for the amount of time tearing it al back down lolx

I figured it would be your plan. But I have been asked several times why I took the time to do that. My reply is always cause it's the right way.

Seeing your notches makes me not look forward to Hortons cage. Ugh I love bending tube and really don't mind notching but I am gonna have some doozies if it all goes to plan

To do that I literally need to remove every single tube except the straight horizontal ones :doah:

Hmmm. I gotta think on that one.

For notches over 50*, I found that maxing the notcher out, and then using that as a start is a big help in keeping a good fit.

So I decided I didnt want to use the 1" for the arrow head gusset thingy. So i asked a buddy if he had some 1.25 or 1.5. Had a stick of 1.25 7 ft long. He also said, hey do you want that chunk of 1.75 DOM you have had sitting in the corner of my shop for 2 years??? lol. (this is the guy that bent my shock hoops a few years ago that I never ended up using, this is what was left of the stick lo)

So it all fit in chevy sonic no problem, because as we all know chevy sonic is a boss :pimp:

So im thinking dimples everywhere (even more than posted in the one pic) instead of the triangle cut out thing.

And just because...

The side bars actually kick in a bit and give a bit of side to side bracing which I like.

Amazing job Adam! :waytogo:

Thanks!

Im kind of upset at how wide the "arrowhead" bars go. I really wanted them much more vertical. But they will work fine.

Just not as "perfect" as I would have liked. But i dont have enough tube to remake them. Nor is it that big a deal that I fell like cutting those notches to get a few more degrees vertical lol.

The one good thing is it allows for WAY more dimple action lol.
