Dammit Speedhole Mike. You caused me to do this over lunch break today lol.




That's pretty much what I had in mind. Not sure if those offsets that are in the 2 upper bars running front to rear are even possible, but I want to try and kick them out so they are not over or next to someones head.


Also the stuff on top was just me playing around trying to come up with something a bit different. Still not really sure how im gonna do the front.


The side stuff is definitely what I have wanted. And I will add some more 1" cross bars behind the rear seat.


I want dimpled gussets EVERYWHERE!!!! :woot:















 
My only real complaint is the diagonals in the roof not meeting. A hit on the driver's corner would be more likely to collapse it than if it carried through. Some of the others with gussets are meh also.

Nodes - A node point is a point where roll cage members all meet at one point, making the node a point of very high strength. It's also defined as a connecting point at which several lines come together.
 
The side bars on top are something I thought of to get the bar away from the passengers head.

The upper cross bars were just something I was playing with, was trying to do something other than an x.

Where are the dead nodes?

I want this to be my second frame. That has always been my number 1 reasoning for a cage. Safety is something that should go hand in hand with a good structure imo, but not really why I wanted a cage.
 
Some can't be avoided. In all reality you have 10 that don't need to be dead nodes. I would like to see an actual x in the roof structure or a \|/ or something like that.

I like to minimize the amount of bending I have to do.

In a full cab truck like yours there will have to be comprises made. Might not work out how you want it to. And you may end up with some dead nodes and stuff that isn't desirable but the point is to minimize those things

The sides will stay as is. The lower side IMO is solid for a rear impact. Maybe a few more gussets.

And the upper sides are pretty stout IMO.


I doubt I will do the goofyness on the top. I was just trying to make something a bit different.

You should know me by now. If im building it, I dont want it to look boring.....
 
With your gussets on the sides the dead nodes aren't as important. But if this is more fore frame rigidity than anything else. Make a really fancy x for the roof. Something that's gets bigger or smaller on one end. Angles slightly different. Course those kinds of things make for awful copes. But the x is the strongest ( rigidity wise) of common cage structures. So it will make the whole thing stiffer

I really liked the upper connection point of the side in the middle. I don't see how connection with a dimpled gusset is all that much different than the tubes coming in at the same point.


I could change up the lower a bit. But I don't want an X.

It's a big difference in a roll. The force gets distributed by the node. The more tubes in the node the more force can be distributed minimizing bends and collapsing.

You need triangle dimples. They will add more structure to your gussets.
