Deuling's 1985 K5. "Restart thread on post #8415"

This is making my cage look like crap-o-la:doah: Hea just some food for thought, what you doing for B-pillar behind the seat stuff? Reason I ask is how you ever gona take out the rear bench? Maybe make that bar right behind it removable so it still slides out the back:dunno:

My bench seat folds down. So i can just fold it and pull it out.

Thats some 1985 tech for you guys stuck in the 70s

This is hilarious! :haha::haha:

Most impressive couple pages in the thread!
There is actually work getting done!
I like the seat hoop Adam

If you haven't welded those gussets in yet take them out and raise them up to make the top of gusset flush out with the top of the tube, or lower them to make the bottom of gusset flush with the bottom of tube.

Like they are in the event of an accident they will slice the tube and I would venture to say they basically make that area weaker by having them in there than not.

Otherwise while not entirely my style it looks good.

For future seat mounts you could have just made two long tubes and capped the ends, then done lighter cross pieces. It's acceptable to have capped tubes exposed these days. Make some of these types of things easier for sure.

cuz it can stab/split the tube.... causing more damage/failure potentially in some impacts... if it's at the end, it's a helpful shear point..

me thinks that starts to split the "endo's off cliffs at high speed, flaming nun" hairs prolly a bit..

fab away young dune slinger.....

Me thinks if I wreck it bad enough that the gussets rip the tubing... I'm more worried about how my blazer is destroyed than a few tubes with rips.....

yup, dubble the shear point...

is adding the middle gusset stronger than no gusset, absolutely.. :waytogo:

at some point, could it's impaling attitude override that and cause ejected flaming religious women? :dunno: possible, quite possible... :waytogo:

Your missing the concept.
The point they are making is: tubing rips....cage collapses.....your dead....who the hell cares what shape the blazer is in....

I agree with with them, gussets should be ran on the "side"

This cage is retartedly overkill already for what this thing is for....

I think the gussets will be ok. They can't make it any weaker than no gussets.

There is a point where you have to look at things and go.... Ok im not building an ULTRA4 car. Im building something to play at the dunes. Ive had zero cage the last 4 years running it in the dunes. Anything I do is going to be 100% better than before.

I understand that but I don't get that you spend all this time on fancy cad drawings and bend tube and cope like a real deal fabricator, then when someone gives you constructive criticism your hard headed and unwilling to listen.... And you want this to show off your talents and get side work.

Dude, you have some real skills at this, from my viewpoint you lack some experience, nothing wrong with that. It will come. I look at it like this,
I am guy at the dunes looking for someone to build me a cage and I look at your stuff and I see a really well thought out cage and well executed to boot. Then my buddy says look he did there. It could be a deal breaker.
