so my pf4 system has been doing good on my truck and i feel i have a solid base tune to start playing with the unit .

i notice my exhaust if i idle to long gets a hair bit puffy but nothing a few blips of the throttle dont clear up . is this to rich ? seems to smell a bit like it .

    i am 13.8 afr @ idle / 14.0 @ cruise / 12.0 @ full throttle for current settings .

i did back the cruise down a bit as it was in the mid 13.xx range and this seems to help it not ping hardly at all much any more and i think fuel mileage went up a hair .

and good tips or tricks to play with guys ?

If you can adjust the timing independently, and your low-load cruise pings now, I'd take the afr back to 14.7:1 under those conditions and reduce timing until it doesn't ping/knock sensor doesn't see any knock.

You can crutch improper timing by dumping more fuel (or using higher octane fuel) but you dont need to, if you can take fuel and timing out specifically where you dont need the power, which is low-load cruise. It will also increase your mpg under those conditions.

Could it be some condensation in the pipes that you are seeing? But you should be able to lean it out a little more and see if it starts to stumble when you blip the throttle.

Have you tried leaning out the full throttle AFR to see what happens? And have you done much with the timing?

Unfortunately this system doesn't use a knock sensor, I assume that is so they don't have problems if someone has a solid lifter valvetrain or a gear drive for the camshaft.

I can just imagine the can of worms a knock sensor would open up on an aftermarket EFI.

I saw that the tablet updated, but hadn't looked into it. Good to know! And I hope that they fixed the problem that I found, which was that I couldn't save a map.

I keep forgetting to email them...
Old dude problems... busy with other things too...
    :doah:
But we tested and if the trucks are parked side by side, the other radio doesn't seem to bother it.

Ok, so I went out tonight to install the update in the ECM and see what I may find for any differences.

DO WHAT I DIDN'T DO!! I read the instructions that showed up when I opened the software on my tablet. I had the stupid idea that I had it in my head, so I went to save and then load the new software. I ended up not saving properly or doing the restore properly, one of the two. I should have made notes. However, it started perfectly and runs fine. I believe that I lost any learning that it did up to this point. My base settings are easy to put in, though.

I suggest that you open the app before you even go out to the truck, and then make notes of the process.

I did notice the AFR and timing retard settings that are waiting in the background for boost!!

But the question is, have you looked at the CB problem?

When I saw a new post in this thread, I thought sure that's what it was going to be about.

Better look into ham radios. Actually, I wonder if the same problem would happen with those too.
