Got any cool tools lately?

Not sure I'd spend that much on sharpening system.

I have some stones I like, and have been using for years.

That said I resharpen my knives after the Cutco guy does. Well I don't let him anymore.

I bought it second hand and missing one of the silicon carbide stones. (came with an entire second set of 1/2 worn diamond stones though) -paid under half what it would cost new. also came with tsprof tools (nothing special allen wrench set with handles) and a nice pelican style case. If this had not popped up, I would have probably bought one of the 60-70 dollar amazon knockoffs

funny- i took it over to a buddy's house, and he and his wife were very guarded about their cutco knives (and they had HORRIBLE edges with lots of factory machine marks)... his wife was upset that we put her chopper on the sharpener for 20 min. mirror finish, and without changing the edge geometry was shaving paper with zero resistance. he was impressed enough that he had to take the knife and piece of paper to her to show her...

she was in the shower, and was not happy about being bothered.

I've got the bass pro version of that and I love it for my filet and dressing knives. Not as precise as yours and you only get 4 angles but simple, fast I'll never sharpen anything without it again
didnt know they had one. I will probably always use this or some other sharpener with a guide rod. what a difference in finished product.

Ive used grinders, belt sanders, oil stones, sheets of sandpaper taped to the bench... i can put an edge on something, but nothing as consistent or impressive for the time spent.

Yeah, it's a cheap one but the second to last hole on the guide is the perfect angle for filet knives. One day I'll hand it down to one of the kids and get something nicer

Boy I tell ya this sumbitch is handier than a pocket on a shirt.

knowing barely enough about welding to get my MIG into trouble... and knowing even less about lathes... what happened here? a lathe and a big bench made a baby, and now your welds are extra sexy on all the right curves??

It's a lathe chuck on a trailer spindle that fits in a receiver hitch welded to the table.

I rotate it by the vise grip ground clamp. It doesn't go by itself. Instead of me flopping these two 45s on the table, I can steadily control them.
When I have to make 20 of something, this is way less tiring.

I initially built it to weld flanges on to pipes but it is very versatile and more useful than I thought.

On the other end of the table I can set it at 45 either way. Practically everything I make now is round.

I’m not allowed to bid on auction sites anymore.

I won a ‘can’t be evaluated because it won’t power on’ scissor lift.
One new battery later it works fine. Got it for about half what they normally sell for.

I learned nothing from this.

I'm always eyeballing ways to doing a cheap foot pedal operated rotator..

An old friend of my dad's asked me if I had a spare long gun case around a while back.
I said sure, I have one of my dad's actually. Real nice lockable hard case.
I took it to him and he asked how much. I just gave it to him. It was dad's, he was dad's friend. Works for me.

He called me 2 days ago and asked if I wanted a 30 gallon stand up sand blaster, a spare 20 gallon air tank on wheels, and an engine stand.
I said sure, be down tomorrow.
When I picked em up and asked how much, he said free, you did me good on that gun case.

It pays to pay it forward :thumb:
