GsxrMike's build thread...Frostbite 2011 Pictures are in!

I got my winch motor! $380 after tax but I got to pick it up local. I should have orded it a couple weeks ago but I was trying to save some money. I just wasn't going to feel right going on a wheeling trip after all of this hard work and not have a winch.

I also talked to Jesse at HAD and he should be able to ship me a driveshaft tuesday or wednesday. The shaft is going to run about $500, the new D60 1410 yoke is about $90 and overnight freight is going to be $180. :eek1: :doah:I guess I better start selling some parts on CL. :haha:

end of hijack ...
Mike was good to see you again, thanks for having us over. Will be good to see her in action .

Without cluttering up Mike's thread more than I have already (sorry Mike :o), I think it'd be great for all of us to meet up. And yes, my buddy with the chevy powered jeep will be there, but he'll be riding with me and the jeep parked with a forsale sign in the window.

Hey sounds like a kansas get together im in :D Just gotta get the truck running well enough lol.

And mike, im looking for parts :deal::haha:

Well it is another 12:00am ending to a long night. I got the winch rebuilt tonight and the new motor installed. I have the winch in place, just gotta wire it up and reinstall the cable.

As far as the shaft goes, Jesse suggested that I keep the flange at the tcase and he has some kinda high angle custom machined gizzy that goes to that. As for the joint size at the tcase, I don't know but I do know that it will operate at like 38*. I didn't go for the high angle CV because as jesse said "they start at $899". I am upgrading the D60 yoke to a 1410. Should be a serious piece of hardware I imagine.

Mike, it was good you made it over the other night. I needed a brake from the action! I think it would be good to meet up again but Shane and I are planning on hitting the black diamonds early. If you want to follow, I am all for it!

Twister, if you have a ride down there you are more than welcome to join up. We only have enough room for 1 truck on the trailer and I have all of my seats filled this year. The event is next weekend in fort scott, ks. More info at www.ksrockspark.com. Also, what parts are you looking for? I have about 20 postings left on craiglist. Just shoot me a PM with the stuff you are looking for and I can hook you up like a tow truck man!

Thanks for all of the positive comments guys! It is so weird to think back when I first subscribed to 4 wheeler magazine about 12 years ago. I would read it cover to cover every month and dreamed about the day when I had an offroad truck, that I built, with one tons and lockers. Thanks to CK5 (and a lot of help from my brother) that dream should become a reality on Saturday!

next weekend ill be triyng to take a break and catching up with an old friend in manhatten, so pretty booked. Later this spring when i get this rig more capable (Either the k5 for the rusty bucket) id love to come down and play with the ck5 guys though :D. Ill shoot ya a pm about some parts.

:( im gonna be closing on the new house come next week the date of the frostbite but once summer rolls around Im in!

Shaft is in. I am going home right now to install it and and fix what ever starter problem I have and then DRIVE IT! I will post report with pics later tonight.

It's just not meant to be...

So I got the shaft, it's beautiful, I can't install it without the Dana 60 1410 yoke that I ordered.

Here is how the whole thing went down:

I called Jess and told him what I wanted, he told me the best route which included reinstalling my flange on my tcase. I had measured shaft to shaft but I had to remeasure with the flange installed. We figured up everything I wanted and he told me to call him back with the measurements.

I went home, measured, called Jess and everything was set!

I got my package today with no yoke, almost cried, called Jess and he said he would send me a yoke and pay for the ride (Overnight from CA to KS). VERY stand up guy in my opinion!

I think what happened is with all of the yapping that we did he forgot to put it in his notes and then when I called back with the measurements it just slipped his mind. (When I talked to him at 9:30am on Monday he told me I was his 35th call).

Anyways, shaft is cool, VERY HEAVY! Here are some pics

Dam Mike...you've had your share of challenges on this project too. I can feel your grief, and dissappointment.
Hang in there dude, It'll come together, then you can look back and laugh at all the crap you went through to get here.

Yeah I hear ya! I just really want to get some seat time in this thing before I take it 2 hours away for an offroad event with friends. I would really hate to show up with the guys I am bringing with me and have the damn thing brake on the first trail.

Plus, it really sucks to spend $174 on overnight freight only to have to wait another day for parts. I really thing what Jess from HAD is doing for me is very cool. I will try to use him whenever I can.

Damn dude thats a bummer. That shaft looks tough though.

Make sure your winch is working if you head straight to the black diamond stuff this weekend. When it is wet and muddy down there those trails get A LOT harder.

I ran the dunes last year with a buddy, and he put a 383/350 in a stock Jeep....blew a ujoint the first time he stomped it....done for the weekend, as it took out the driveshaft too.

Good luck.

X2 on this!!! It's night and day difference. We'll probably hit a few intermediated trails starting out to see how it is.

Shaft looks great. How much slip is it? Bummer on the yoke, but it sounds like you'll still be able to make it. Hang in there...

*Edit* On a good note, they bumped the high for saturday up to 44* :D

The shaft is a 12" slip so no problems there. I was laying under there tonight and it looks like I may have some header flange/driveshaft interferance. If thats the case I am running open headers! :haha:

Winch is in 100% working order! I just have to respool with some tension to get the rope tight on the spool.

I have been keeping track of the weather for the park and it keeps getting better and better! There was a 30% chance of rain/snow on friday but it appears that has dropped to 10% or 20%.

Anyways, I have everything done minus the shaft, console, storage in back, packing trail supplies, and reinstalling the access panel I have above my front drive shaft, and changing the oil. I should be completely done tomorrow (today I guess, it's 1:00am) or friday. I may try to take friday off so I can do a little local wheeling and make sure everything is going to work as it should. I am f-ing wore the f out! Going to bed, wish me luck for the next two days, I will need it!
