Has anyone machined a TH400/NP205 short adapter to mate with a 4L80 and D60 Question

Subscribed.....gotta come back when I have more time to read all this crap. :D

The AA Atlas-4 adapter that fit my TH400 does not bolt up correctly to the 4L80E. The 6 holes seem to be right, but there is a lip machined into it that must be slightly different on the TH400 case output and the 4L80E output.

It's close, but not quite right. I need to throw a caliper on it to see what's going on.

Bump and subscribed read a ton in here, i just found and purchased the 91 4l80e adapter for my swap.

I have a 86 k30 crew cab installing a 87 low mileage 454 to replace the knocking og 454 and the 4l80e is replacing the bad th400.

picked up a th400/np205 adaptor gonna take it and tailshaft to machinist to have spacer fabbed anyone know a part # for the adaptor O Rings?

I did a bit of research and read a couple of long threads and made a ton of calls and found the easiest way to do the swap is to get the AA figure 8 pattern 4l80e to 205 adapter and you are done.Granted you have the th400 figure 8 pattern 205. If you have the round pattern 205 then you are screwed and have to make a spacer or get the 91 adapter thats all i could find on making the round pattern work.

So i had to do the later and here is the pics of the 4l80e/round pattern 205 adapter from a 91 factory combo. I believe it is the same one NWF posted early on in this thread. I called them about the spacers they don't have them and are not planing on making them, but they had this one adapter left in there used stock.

Bumping this vital and important thread back to top again!

Too valuable to let this one slip further into the pages.

This one should be a sticky.

+1 on being a sticky

Ok this thread is great but I decided to compile it all in an easy to read pic to save everyone the trouble of reading 18 pages to figure it out (although it wouldn't hurt to still read them).

Let me know if there are any problems. I haven't tested any of this is just based on what I read here and phone calls to vendors--sorry about the typo's.

even local guy askin me for help. :haha:not even a member on here. called my cell #

did some diggin and lookin at what others have posted up. so i took a trip over to the web site .

http://www.optishift.com/index.shtml

here is what i found out there reading and callin and talking with tech support.

i just down loaded there softwear sample. and played with it. i like it yes/no questions with custom options for tech savy people or custom setups. and good flow graph chart at the end to show everything in action.

you can pinpoint basicly every function of he tranny with this setup. i like it. and minor changes done with controler in vehicle no laptop needed.

just got off the phone with there tech line. WOW :eek1: super guys and vary good info.

this controler is stipid simple to hook up. 1 tps signal wire and power 12v and ground.

then best to use 2wd rear oss option in tranny for stupid simple use with NO 4wd problems for any low range ratio options of combos.

the unit has 2 stored programs for driving. so 1 can be set to dd use mode and other for what ever. its all up to you and how you program it.

thay are vary cool on info if you ask me. and i WILL be reading a lot more on them and prob get one for my project STUBBY when i get ready to finish it.

:thumb: :thumb: :thumb: to Baumann controller optishift company !!!

oh ya and thay offer stock on there controler padel shifter inputs. so you can leave in drive and up/down shift with switch.

there full directions page http://www.optishift.com/downloads/GMmanual.pdf

hope this stuff helps someone in there quest to install a 4l80-e and get better fuel economy with overdrive and lockup convortor.

got an optishift in my blazer i bought one of the 1st ones as an upgrade from their previous controller . Works great and i recently found out that the new firmware supports a speedo output for people looking to use a 205 without a sensor. Also this thing is super simple to use and has a display for speed, trans temp, voltage, tps. Their tech support is great and carl took care of me on the price to upgrade.

Yeah the Optishift is the controller I am using. It was really easy. Hardest thing for me was making a bracket for the TPS because my engine didn't have one stock.

This thread is bad a$$. Th350 turns out to be crap from PO looking at swapping up to 4l80 in my 73. The Optishift controller takes care of the electrical part of trans? I think i'm on overload from reading the whole post!
